Model: TC71
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.4.8

We have 4x cameras (2 of the stated TC71, 1x C211 & 1x TC60) all on the same fixed home wifi network.

Early in August of this year I started with the TC60, the a few weeks later added the 2x TC71 units, and finally about 4 weeks ago I added the C211.

These have all worked fine. I have had full control of them thru the app while away from home via my mobile network.

(Tho I am abe to overlook the occasional false alert because of wind blowing the pot plants..)

2 days ago, I got a notification to update one of my TC71 units. There was no option to opt out.

Since then,. I am unable to connect to my cameras via the app when I am away from home.

They will only connect to the app when I am on the same wifi network. Which is silly, and effectively useless.

My girlfriend has the app on her phone too and gives the same results.

This is new and unwanted behaviour.

I have looked thru all the settings and I cannot see anything that cause(s) this.

I have done some googling and the results were very generic and I have tried practically everything mentioned.

I have "removed" a camera from the app and reset/rebooted and reconnected the camera to the app and everything went smoothly but did not fix the issue.

I wish to clarify, itr is affecting EVERY camera on my network and BOTH mobile phone's apps connected to the network.

Our router is not displaying any signs of issue. Our robovac and smart lights all work as expected.

As does the wireless connections to our PCs and Smart TV.

The cameras worked fine for several months and then simply stopped.

I do read of one thing I've not tried. Something about resetting our router DNS, something-or-other.

Why should this be a thing when it has already worked perfectly with the router settings exactly as they are...?

Please help..!

Hi,
If your ISP is Optus, please refer to the thread below for further assistance.
[Tapo Smart Devices] Cannot be controlled remotely on the Optus network, Australia

Hi @Solla-topee , thank you for your response and offer of guidance.

As it happens, yes, we are on the optus network.

I was unaware of any recent updates or changes in their services.

Interestingly, and I don't know if it helps in troubleshooting, the issue tends to occur later in the day rather than earlier.

Since I submitted this post (a few days ago while waiting foor review) I have become aware that in the mornings, the cameras and remote app viewing generally works as expected.

Until at some point later in the day it stops and all cameras go into "offline" mode. As I type this now it is 10am local time and so far it is all working correctly.

We have had issues in the past with our optus wifi unit being inconsisitant and exhibiting irregular behaviour.

We are switching our service provider at the end of this week.

I am enthused to realise our issue may very well resolve itself if this is proven to be the cause of it.

Tho I will follow it up with the recommended link to tech support if the issue persists under the new ISP.

PS. I do assume I will manually need to reconnect each camera to the new ISP and router.!?

Hi,
If your ISP is Optus now, you can restart your Tapo devices, then check whether they are back online.

If you have changed your ISP but not your router, once your router is working (Wi-Fi settings do not change), the camera usually will reconnect automatically. If you also changed the wireless router, you will need to factory reset the cameras and reconfigure them to connect to the new router's Wi-Fi.
Note: If your new router has the same Wi-Fi name, password, and wireless security type as the old router, you can restart the cameras to see if they will reconnect to the new router automatically.

Best Regards
