  Hi everyone,

I'd like to request a general sound detection feature for Tapo cameras mainly my C225

Right now, the sound-based detection is limited to AI-classified events (e.g. baby crying, glass breaking, dog barking, cat meows). The problem is that these AI modes only trigger on a narrow set of pre-trained categories, and miss everything else.

What I'm asking for:
  - A raw sound-level / noise trigger that fires on any sound above a configurable decibel threshold — regardless of what produced it.
  - A sensitivity slider (dB threshold) so I can tune it to my environment.
  - The ability to use this trigger for notifications, recording, and automations, same as motion detection.

  Why it matters:
  - AI sound modes can't cover unpredictable or uncommon noises (footsteps, doors, machinery, unknown disturbances).
  - For security and monitoring, I need to know when something makes noise — not only when the AI recognizes a specific category.
  - Most basic audio-detection cameras have offered simple noise-threshold triggers for years; it's a gap in an otherwise great product.

A general sound-level trigger alongside the existing AI modes would make Tapo cameras far more useful for real monitoring scenarios.

Thanks for considering — would love to hear if others want this too I saw few Reddit threads that mention this also.

Hi,

The core of this suggestion is to add a basic, adjustable sound detection feature to Tapo cameras. This would allow them to trigger recordings and notifications based on any significant noise—not just pre-defined AI categories—by monitoring sound levels above a customizable decibel threshold.

If you’d like to see this feature implemented, please vote for this post and share your intended use case in the comments below. Your input is highly valuable for evaluating and prioritizing this potential feature, so don’t forget to leave a comment after voting!

Best Regards
