Best outdoor Camera for Neighbours noisy dog
Best outdoor Camera for Neighbours noisy dog
hello, I'm trying to record my neighbours dog barking, so I can make a continuous record as we're in the legal process of making a noise complaint.
I'm looking for a recomendation for the best outdoor camera for recording sound, ideally it will be battery or solar powered, record continuously and have a keenly sensitive microphone that will detect my idiot neighbours' garden-rat barking at all hours of the day and night.
Obviously I dont want to film any other areas except my garden, but the key thing here is the microphone, it must have good mic pick up most importantly.
I like your tapo cameras, we have indoor ones for our cats when we go away and the doorbell which is great.
thanks

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out and for your kind words about your existing Tapo cameras. We appreciate your interest in finding a solution for your specific situation.
Currently, our battery-powered or solar-powered Tapo cameras do not support a specific “barking detection” feature.
For your use case, if you have access to a power outlet, we would recommend considering the Tapo C120 indoor/outdoor camera. It requires a wired power connection but offers continuous recording capability (when used with a microSD card) and a built-in microphone that captures ambient sound.
Important Considerations Regarding Audio Performance: The effectiveness of capturing the dog's barking will depend heavily on your specific environment. Key factors include:
1. Distance: The distance between the camera and the source of the barking.
2. Obstacles: Walls, fences, or other barriers between the camera and the sound source.
3. Ambient Noise: Other background noises in your garden or the surrounding area.
We cannot guarantee that the microphone will pick up the audio clearly if the dog is far away or there is significant interference. We strongly suggest you test the camera in your actual setup to see if the audio quality meets your requirements.

hello again Hilbert, what other mains powered outdoor cameras do you have with the dog barking detection? please.
I looked at the C120 and I think the USB-C cable option there might be an issue (have to drill a large hole in the wall, to get the cable through)
can you recommend others please? I cant see any that specify this dog detection feature..?
kind regards

For readers dealing with a neighbor’s persistently noisy dog, the best outdoor camera isn’t just about crisp 4K video—it’s about superior audio capture with wind-noise reduction and two-way talk to politely (or firmly) ask for quiet, plus motion-triggered recording that saves clips with time-stamped decibels as evidence. Before you commit, though, in your camera’s pet-detection settings to avoid false alerts from roaming felines, which can clutter your footage. Prioritize models with night vision, weatherproofing (IP66 or higher), and local storage or cloud backup so you can document barking patterns over days. Finally, ensure the camera has a privacy zone to block your own property and a siren or light-flash option to startle the dog without confrontation—always check your local noise ordinances first, as footage is most useful when paired with a polite log to authorities or your neighbor.
