Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.18

Dear TP-Link Product Management Team,

I would first like to congratulate your team for building one of the most impressive smart home ecosystems currently available.

After investing extensively in the Tapo ecosystem and completing my installation, I wanted to share some feedback that I hope can contribute to future development of the Tapo H500.

My Current Ecosystem

  • Tapo H500 HomeBase

  • 10 Tapo Cameras

    • C560WS

    • C840

    • C230

  • Crucial MX500 2TB SSD

  • Tapo Care Subscription

  • Three Deco X55 Mesh Units

  • H500 connected via Ethernet

  • Primary 4K outdoor camera connected via Ethernet

After completing the installation, my entire system is now working flawlessly. Live View, local playback, cloud recording, AI features, network stability and overall performance have exceeded my expectations.

As someone who has made a significant investment in the TP-Link ecosystem, I would like to suggest several enhancements that I believe would further strengthen the H500 and position it as the industry's leading AI home surveillance hub.

1. Expand AI Facial Recognition Beyond Six Cameras

The H500 supports up to 16 cameras, yet facial recognition is currently limited to six.

Larger installations naturally benefit from AI running across the entire property rather than only selected areas.

Possible approaches could include:

  • Enable facial recognition for all supported cameras.

  • Increase the maximum supported number of AI cameras.

  • Allow users to configure the number of AI-enabled cameras based on available processing resources.

  • Let the H500 intelligently analyse CPU load, camera resolutions and available resources, then recommend the optimal AI allocation automatically.

2. Increase the Continuous Recording Limit

The current limit of four continuously recording cameras is understandable from a performance perspective. However, every installation is different.

Instead of applying a fixed limitation, I believe a more intelligent approach would provide a much better user experience.

Possible approaches could include:

  • Increase the maximum number of continuously recording cameras.

  • Allow advanced users to manually select how many cameras should record continuously.

  • Let the H500 analyse available CPU resources, SSD performance, storage capacity, AI workload and camera resolutions, then automatically recommend or configure the optimal number of continuously recording cameras for each installation.

This adaptive approach would maximise the capability of the hardware while maintaining system stability.

3. AI Resource Management

Instead of fixed limits, I believe the H500 could become significantly more powerful by introducing AI resource management.

For example, users could assign priorities to cameras:

  • High Priority

  • Medium Priority

  • Low Priority

or simply allow the H500 to optimise AI processing automatically.

This would allow every installation to make the best possible use of the available hardware without requiring customers to compromise.

Why This Matters

Customers purchasing the H500 are typically building larger surveillance systems and have already invested significantly in the TP-Link ecosystem.

Providing greater flexibility for AI processing and continuous recording would make the H500 one of the most advanced and intelligent home surveillance solutions available, while encouraging customers to continue expanding within the Tapo ecosystem.

Thank you for creating such an excellent platform. I sincerely hope these suggestions can be shared with the Product Management and Engineering teams for consideration in future firmware updates.

I would also be happy to participate in beta testing or provide further feedback if it would be helpful.

Kind regards.

  @CihanS

To give your suggestions more visibility and engagement, I’d recommend posting each one as a separate thread with a clear, descriptive title. That way, other users can quickly understand what each suggestion is about and vote on them. It also makes it easier to see which ideas resonate more with the community, for instance, whether people prefer suggestion 1 over suggestion 2.

This kind of focused feedback can be really valuable when the product team evaluates potential improvements.

Thanks, I'm currently facing a bigger problem with my H500 I'll post it separately.
