I do not see any reason why it would not work. The extender would not actively block any potential client. You could try defaulitng the extender so it has the TP-Link Wifi name, and see if it can connect to that. There obviously would be no internet, but just to see if it is capable of connecting. If so, I would opt to setting it up over the web browser, not WPS, and make sure the WiFI name is different from the main network. For example, if your WiFi is mynetwork, then naming the extender mynetwork-ext.
