Model: TL-PA9020 KIT
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 3.2.4_902002_170419_901

Purchased these knowing they wouldnt provide 2,000 Mbps between them and that it is a theoretical bandwidth.

Setup in the house and the tplink utility says between 275 and 315 Mbps, which is acceptable for me.

When I Jperf between a Desktop and laptop on the lan across the units, im only receiving ~90Mbps. Checked for duplexing and speed on ports and all showing 1,000 FD.

Is the ~90 Mbit expected even though the utility reports ~300?

DT < 1000 fd > Switch < 1000 fd > TP-PA9020 < 275 Mbps > TP-PA9020 < 1000 fd > LT.

With powerline connections it really depends on what outlet you are using. If you have multiple outlets in the room desired, test all of them as you will likely get better performance on one then another.

The speed you get varies on distance, noise on the electrical wiring, quality of the wiring, etc.

In the end it is pretty much finding an outlet that gives you the best performance, and be directly connected, not utilizing a surge protector or power strip.

I understand bandwidth will vary. The question is why isnt bandwidth similar to what the app is reporting for link speed. Im only able to pass 100 mbit over the 300 mbit reported link.

I mean, I think everyone would be upset if their gigabit connection between two switches was only able to pass 300 mbit...

Can we see any interface counters over the unit for errors or anything other than the link speed?

If you are refering to your network/internet bandwidth that is acutally dependent on your ISP and not the Link speed.  The Link speed is the transfer rate between the adapters, not what devices will see.  I hope that helps

The ISP has nothing to do with this. I am only able to pass 90 mbit over the power line adaptor, when it says the link speed is more than 300 mbit.

Laptop < TL-PA9020 > Desktop.

Testing from the (laptop < gbit switch > Desktop) I get 980mbit using the same cables connected to the tplink units.

How do we see the circuit counters to make sure it isnt incrementing errors?

If you add the interference from the electrical wiring, some redudtant data, loss of data, all those will lead to a lower rate then what you see in the tpPLC utility. In your case what would be best is to test other outlets that will give the highest link rate. Again, the link rate will not equal actual speed, but a higher rate means a better connection.

You are not able to see any errors. It mainly comes down to the link speed in the utility or the color of the LED light.
