Firmware Version:

I am trying to set up my extender and enter a password. It is asking me to use letters, digits and underlines. I have tried special characters and underscore but it will not accept anything. Does anyone know how to enter the password?

 Hello everyone.

The 'underline' means underscore, which is not necessary for creating a login password,  numbers and letters are safe enough as login password for the range extender.  please avoid using special symbols when create login password for RE, or this warning may pop up)

Make sure your Tether app is up-to-date as the new version APP should have removed this hint when creating login password for RE.

If you could not  log into Range extender on Tether or Web,  try a factory reset on RE and create a new login password :

Reset: with the RE powered on, use a pin to press the reset hole for 10 secs

If you still have the ' underline' note on the Tether app, may I know the hardware version of your range extender on the back label, and your Tether app version, thank you.

The same issue I even tried making a password in mail with an underline (you can do it in an email) but when I copied & past the underline didn't appear.... pretty frustrating good luck

@Poppy87

The underscore is not necessary and you could just use numbers and letters to log in, for example, login password could be   ' admin1234 ' or ' tplink1234'  (some older version use ' admin ' as default login password, make sure its in lower case )

Make sure you have successfully reset RE if you could not create a login password.

Can you give a photo of the Error if you still have trouble logging  inTether, may I know the model and hardware of your RE?

@BigDaddy727  Thank for the hardware, did you meet underline message when create a login password? If so, can I know the model of RE and model of your phone?
