TL-WA3001 : Can't connect remote management when local is enabled

Firmware Version: 1.0.3 Build 20240718 rel.71405(5553)

Hardware Version: TL-WA3001 v1.20

I set the WA3001 up for a small office in multi-SSID mode and seems to be working well. When local management is enabled, I am able to login to manage via WiFi but then unable to login via ethernet. Does enabling local management really disable remote management?

(Also, there's no TL-WA3001 option in the Model number popup menu for this ticket.)

As an access point TL-WA3001 has only a local management:

If you set the TL-WA3001 in Multi-SSID mode then you probably use different VLANs in your network.

Keep in mind that VLANs are isolated from each other. The web management interface most probably would be accessible from devices in VLAN 1 only.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, it is in multi-SSD mode and I am attempting to connect via its primary IP on VLAN1. If this is supposed to work, then I will double-check the firewall rules to see if there's anything that could be blocking it.

EDIT:

The firewall allows http and https connections from the LAN (192.168.x.x) to the Guest interface that has the TP-Link.

The TP-Link IP is set to 10.0.0.254.

The firewall is providing DHCP from 10.0.0.1-150 for VLAN1 IPs.

I can login to the TP-Link management interface by connecting to 10.0.0.254 from a LAN machine that's on WiFI VLAN1.

Turning off WiFi on the LAN machine and trying to connect to 10.0.0.254 via the wired connection stalls.

From the LAN machine I can ping 10.0.0.254 so it can definitley see the TP-Link making it seem like the TP-Link is refusing the connection.

I added the MAC address of the LAN machine to the allowed list but no change.

There's another option to remotely manage your AP via the TP-Link Cloud service, using Tether app and your TP-Link ID - check the user guide Chapter 3.4 (here).

@terziyski   Thanks for the reply. Is using a cloud service and app the only way to remotely manage? I prefer not to need these to manage the device.

In case everything is configured correctly and when trying to open the AP web page you have been redirected to http://tplinkap.net, cloud service may be the only way to remotely manage the AP.

"The firewall is providing DHCP from 10.0.0.1-150 for VLAN1 IPs.

You seem to try accessing the AP only locally via wireless or wired machine in your LAN.

When the LAN machine Wi-Fi is turned off and you're connected wired does its IP address still belong to VLAN 1 ?

"You seem to try accessing the AP only locally via wireless or wired machine in your LAN."

Yes, that's correct. I'd prefer to manage via the wired interface.

"When the LAN machine Wi-Fi is turned off and you're connected wired does its IP address still belong to VLAN 1 ?"

No, it has a LAN IP (192.168.x.x) but a firewall rule allows connections from the LAN to the Guest interface where the TP-Link is physically connected. From this LAN machine with a LAN IP (WiFi is disabled), I can ping the TP-Link so it is able to communicate with the AP from the LAN. But no response from the management page when trying its IP. No redirect to tplinkap.net either, just a page that never loads.

I understand that you've created a rule on the firewall to access the AP IP address, but for the sake of experiment try to access the AP from a wired connection in VLAN 1 and check if that's the issue. Other than that I can't think of anything else that could restrict the access to the AP web management page.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not at the location for a few weeks and won't be able to set up a wired machine onto the VLAN 1 Guest network. I will give it a try once I'm physically in the office.
