Devices connected to the same extender cannnot see one-another.

None of the devices are isolated.

For instance, if my iPhone is connected to the same extender as my AppleTV, the Apple Remote App cannot find the AppleTV on the same extender. It can see the other AppleTV in the other room.

I have a Prusa printer connected to the main Deco unit along with a Fedora Linux server. The Server cannot connect to the Prusa printer connected to the same main Deco unit. I can connect to it from hardwired ethernet.

This is a known type of local network access issue. Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot:

1. Verify all devices are on the same subnet: Ensure that both your client device (phone/laptop/server) and the target device (AppleTV/printer) are receiving IP addresses from the Deco and are within the same LAN IP range (e.g., 192.168.68.x). If any device is getting an IP from a different range, that would explain the issue.

2. Check that no devices are on the Guest Network: Make sure all affected devices are connected to the Deco's main Wi-Fi network (not the guest network). Also verify that Device Isolation is fully disabled — go to Deco APP > Security > Device Isolation and confirm none of the affected devices are listed there.

3. Check firewall settings on the server: For your Fedora Linux server, confirm that its local firewall (e.g., firewalld or iptables) is not blocking incoming connections from the local network. Since wired Ethernet works but Wi-Fi doesn't, this could be a firewall rule tied to the network interface or zone.

4. Check streaming/casting app settings: For the Apple Remote and AppleTV issue, make sure that AirPlay and Home sharing are properly configured on both devices, and that both are signed into the same Apple ID/Home.

5. Test with another router for comparison: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, try connecting the devices through a different router. If local discovery works on another router but not on the Deco, please reply back to this post.

  @HelpFixDecoApp 1 through 4 are all set correctly. I will have to wait until the weekend to move everything to a different router.

And, to be clear, I don't have a local discovery issue except if they are connected to the same Deco. If i set them to different Decos or connect one of them directly with ethernet cable, they can see each other regardless of which Deco is being used.

Hi, 
Take two phones as an example. If you connect two phones to the same Deco node, do they both have internet access? 
If so, please send us the IP addresses on the two phones. When they try to ping each other, do they succeed?

  @Solla-topee They are not that kind of devices. 

The AppleTV and the iPhone both have internet connections and can retrieve/display content from the internet. They are both connected to the main network, not Guest, not IoT.

If they are on the same Deco station, the AppleTV remote app cannot see the AppleTV. If I take the phone into another room so that it connects to a different Deco extender, the AppleTV remote app can see the AppleTV on the other Deco. With the AppleTV hardwired to the Deco, the app on the iPhone connected to the same Deco on WiFi can see the AppleTV and control it.

 

I have multiple ESP32 driven devices that communicate with a Fedora Server over WiFi. They also communicate with a Prusa MK4S over WiFi. 

They all have assigned IP addresses on the main Deco network. They are all situated in the same room, so they all connect to the same Deco unit.

The ESP32 devices cannot connect to the printer to collect filament usage data and store it on the server. If I connect the server via WiFi to that same Deco unit, they can no longer communicate. The other Deco units are too far away to get a stable signal on any of the devices, so they all have to connect to the same Deco.

 

I set up a different WiFi network with a different router and when all devices connect to that router via WiFi, all communications between devices work without issue.

 

When connected to the Deco network, they are all on the 192.168.68. subnet. It routers from 50 to 200. The printer was set to .90 and each of the five ESP32 devices were assigned sequentially from 91. The server was .50.
