Solution Archer AX73 V2 OpenVPN Client Stuck at "Connecting" After Firmware 1.3.1
Hey Community,
Recently, we've received reports from users that after upgrading to firmware 1.3.1 Build 20260430 rel.48448, their OpenVPN Client fails to connect and remains stuck at the "Connecting" status.
Our teams have investigated and discovered the root cause, with two available solutions:
- A workaround involving modifying the ovpn file and VPN Client Description
- A beta firmware to directly address the behavior without requiring modifications to the ovpn file or description settings.
Available Solutions:
1. Temporary Workaround:
- Modify the .ovpn File: Open the configuration file using a text editor (such as Notepad) and remove any line breaks within or between consecutive
#comment lines before uploading.
-
Remove Spaces in Description: Access the router's web management interface, go to VPN Client settings, and edit the OpenVPN Profile. Remove any spaces from the Description field or rename it to a single word without spaces (e.g., change "NordVPN US" to "VPN").
2. Beta Firmware:
If you would rather not modify the .ovpn file or the Description Settings, please download and install the beta firmware using the link below:

Note:
- It is always recommended to save a copy of the router's Backup Config file before upgrading or downgrading firmware.
- For instructions on how to upgrade your router's firmware, please see: How to Upgrade the Firmware on TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers
- There will be an official firmware release in the future. If you are not comfortable using beta firmware, please either use the temporary workaround above, wait for the official release, or contact our support teams for assistance.
- Pre-release and Beta firmware should be used at your own discretion. We cannot guarantee the functionality of features or technical support for Pre-Release or Beta Firmware.
