Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I'm finding that devices are only able to perform at 5GHz speeds (near 1Gbps) only when connected to the Main Deco, but they are performing at 2.4Ghz speeds (100Mbps or less) when connected to the other Decos. This still occurs when the device connects to the 'child' Deco at 5Ghz.

I'd like to have the full 5Ghz performance from all of the Deco mesh routers instead of only the Main Deco.

It is almost as if the Decos aren't communicating with each other at 5Ghz.

Is there a setting that allows the Decos to pass through the full 5Ghz signal across the mesh network?

@GKZyir

WiFi transmission is half-duplex, so there will be some reduction in bandwidth when comparing the source WiFi to a repeating node (WiFi extender or remote Deco unit). This half-duplex transmission is an industry standard for WiFi and will be present when not using a separate, dedicated backhaul such as Ethernet backhaul or a dedicated, third WiFi band, like on our Deco M9 Plus.

When using WiFi mesh, the Deco's algorithm will automatically determine WiFi which band is optimal for communication between Deco nodes based on various factors - there is not an option to manually force it to use one band over the other.

For optimal throughput with a 1Gbps Internet plan, we would suggest considering the Ethernet backhaul feature for the Deco S4, as it does not have a dedicated, third 5GHz WiFi band for backhaul when using WiFi mesh.

That being said, we also recommend ensuring your Deco app and firmware are both fully up to date and your Deco units are optimally positioned within your home and in proximity to each other.
