Model: Tapo C100
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.2.4

My Tapo C100 camera detects motion fine and records short clips when triggered. The problem is whenever I manually turn on recording from the live view screen, it only records until I leave that screen for another part of the iOS app, or I switch to another app altogether. As soon as I do one of those 2 things, recording stops immediately, even if it'd only been recording for 5 seconds. Apparently the only way to record for more 10  seconds is to keep my phone on that screen and unlocked the entire time.

I have of course enabled the free trial of Tapo Care, but if all I will ever get is a half-dozen eight second clips, then there's no use for the cloud service—I could record on a single micro SD for a year in that case. As it is, I have local recording off because I didn't put an SD card in there, because I was gonna set up RTSP later and because I was signed up for the cloud service.

I just bought it. The firmware and software are all up to date. I've rebooted it a couple times as well.

Hi,
1. If your camera enjoys the Tapo Care free trial service, the camera will record video clips after it detects events based on the camera's Detection settings. Typically, the camera will continue recording the event after detecting it, and the maximum length of a cloud video clip is 3 minutes.
If the cloud video clip you are viewing is only 8 seconds long, you can check whether the recorded event is complete. It's possible that the event itself was brief, resulting in a shorter recording.

2. The manual record feature works only when you are on the camera's Live View page. After you leave the camera's Live View page, the record will stop.

3. If you want the camera to record video continuously, it is recommended to insert an SD card into the camera. However, the RTSP can't be established if the camera enjoys the Tapo Care service and has an SD card inserted.

Best Regards
