What Should I Do If I Need to Move My Dock After Mapping My Home?

Backup your Map! If you're moving your dock to another room, save your current map to the cloud as a backup, as you may need to remap your home depending on the outcome.

Your vacuum can handle small changes to your home environment, whether it's moved chairs, shoes, or added tables.

For significant changes to your home’s layout, consider unlocking your map for remapping to be the most reliable (albeit intrusive) method of updating the map.

We typically recommend not moving your robot vacuum’s dock after mapping is complete; however, your vacuum will do its best to recognize the new dock location, but there is no guarantee.

  • If the vacuum can recognize the dock's location and place it on the old map, it will adjust the map accordingly.
  • If the vacuum is not able to identify its own location and the dock’s new location, the vacuum will begin remapping your home

Note: Your Robot Vacuum’s map does not need to be unlocked for this adjustment to occur.

Why Does My Robot Vacuum Dock Appear at an Angle in the Tapo App?

If the icon for your robot vacuum’s charging dock appears to be at an angle not true to its real-life positioning – don’t worry, it is not expected for this to affect the function of the vacuum.

The docks work by projecting an invisible grid onto the ground that the vacuum can ‘latch’ onto to orient itself and dock successfully; if this grid is in the general location, the vacuum will dock as expected.

If you do see the behavior, first check your dock for obstructions, dirty contacts, or uneven floors that could be affecting the device’s ability to dock. If there is nothing obvious, feel free to report it in the Tapo App or reach out to support – especially if your vacuum is also failing to dock or charge – as this may be indicative of something else.
