Model: Tapo C125
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.4.2

I have both a Tapo C125 and C120. My C125 cannot find my 2.4 WiFi network which renders it unusable, so I'd appreciate help.

My fuzzy memory of recent events: both my C125 and C120 were connected to my 2.4 WiFi and working properly. Then I unplugged and replugged my modem/router (combined device) for something unrelated to Tapo, and I didn't change the 2.4 WiFi settings.

Current state: C125 is no longer able to find the WiFi. I've tried to reset my C125, but the WiFi network doesn't show in the list. My C120 can find and connect to the network, it's still working properly. My C125 does detect neighbors' networks.

The 2.4 WiFi used WPA2-PSK security when it was working for the C125, and still uses that now. I've tried entering the network name manually, but my C125 can't find it. I've also tried changing the WiFi name and changing security to WPA/WPA2-PSKWPA2-PSK, doesn't work.

@Hilbert-TP For some reason the fix was disabling the 5GHz network on my modem/router, and C125 could find the 2.4 network even after re-enabling the 5 network. Before this, I've changed the name and security type of the 2.4 network without success, maybe disabling 5GHz did a different kind of reset, not sure.

Thanks for sharing your experience — that’s really helpful! Glad you got it working in the end. 😊

Just to clarify, were your 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks using the same SSID (Wi-Fi name) before you disabled the 5GHz band? If they were sharing the same name, that could explain why the camera had trouble finding the 2.4GHz network.

@Hilbert-TP The 2.4 and 5 GHz networks had different names before disabling. I don't have any guess why the C125 couldn't find my 2.4 GHz network in the first place, especially since it was connected before, and I recall the only event that triggered it was unplugging my modem/router.

you might check wpa3 is really disabled on router, force to use only wpa2.

c120 uses wpa2, c125 can use wpa3. interoperability between these encryption schemes can cause issues.

or perhaps get cheap tp-link router with wpa3.

That is indeed a bit strange — especially since the camera was working fine before, and the only change was unplugging your modem/router. I can see why that would be confusing!
If you don’t mind, could you share the following with me via private message( @Hilbert-TP )?

1. The model number of your modem/router
2. A screenshot of your wireless settings (2.4GHz and 5GHz)

Feel free to send it over when you get a chance!

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out and providing the detailed information. We guess the issue is likely related to your router’s wireless configuration. The disabling action you performed subsequently appears to have refreshed or updated these settings. We suggest you keep observing the device’s performance. Should you encounter any further issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.
