There are different methods for setting up a TP-Link range extender. If you don’t know how to configure it, please refer to installation guide or setup video on our website.

Check this guide, if you have experianced issues with getting the range extender configured?

Use this chart to determine which "case" you need to review.

Note: Please refer to the use or installation guide to determine what the RE light looks like on your model.

Case One

1. Verify the WiFi password of the main router. Log in to the management page of your router if possible, double check the password.

2. Put the range extender within 10 feet of the router. Factory reset the ranger extender by pushing the reset button for a few seconds, then configure the range extender from scratch.

3. If RE light is comes on, but you still do not have internet access, please go refer to Case Two or Three. If the RE light is still off, turn off and on the range extender and wait two 2 minutes then turn the unit back on and check if the RE light is lit.

4. Upgrade the range extender to the latest firmware and reconfigure it.

5. Make sure the main router doesn’t enable any security settings, like MAC Filtering or Access control. And Authentication Type and Encryption type is Auto on the router. Please contact your router's support if you are unsure how to check this.

6. If issue still exists please contact TP-Link support and share the results of the above testing with the agent.

Case Two

1.  Check wireless signal strength of your device(s). If only one device is unable to join the WiFi of the range extender, remove the profile of the wireless network from that device and try again. If it still fails connect the device to your router directly to see if it can connect.

2. Connect one device to the range extender by cable (if possible)  to check its internet connectivity.

If no internet access, check what the IP address and default gateway are when that device is connected to the range extender.

If it works, forget the range extender SSID on your wireless device and try again.

3. Upgrade the range extender to the latest firmware and reconfigure it.

4. Make sure the main router doesn’t enable any security settings, like MAC Filtering or Access control. And Authentication Type and Encryption type is Auto on the router. Please contact your router's support if you are unsure how to check this.

5. If issue still exists please contact TP-Link support and share the results of the above testing with the agent.

Case Three

1. Try multiple devices. If only one device doesn’t have internet access, check whether the device is obtaining IP address automatically. What if it connects to the main router directly?

2. Connect the same device to the main router directly to check its internet connectivity. Check its IP address and default gateway when connected to the router and range extender.

I am trying to use it as extender, I have done the whole setup succesfully many times and also hard resets as well.

For some reason, the same problem keeps happening, there is no internet access in the wifi from the extender.

What can I do to solve this issue?

Thank you
