I first got a T-SG108E v1 from Amazon, too, but returned it b/c lack of the web UI (Windows-free zone here). In my opinion, every Linux-based device should always have a web UI and the Easy Smart Switches use Linux as the base OS. Then I bought a v2.0 at another dealer and did open several tickets with TP-Link to convince them to remove the fixed VLAN 1 assignment. Tickets from other customers finally made them revise this design policy.

I also tried the Netgear GS108PE and GS105E, but did return them eventually when TP-Link announced to fix their Easy Smart Switch firmware in Dec 2017.

Cool, so I assume on the TL-SG105E v3.0 or TL-SG108E v2.0 you're unable to configure the vlan 1 fully despite TP Link releasing the update?

On my v1, I still can connect to the management IP on any VLAN as long as the IP is in the same subnet. Jokes :D

I have 3 of them and it sounds like I'll have to replace them all or at least one of them, that one causes me a pain with some strange packet loss when the raspberry pi is connected in addition to the vlan mess :(

What makes you think so? I did install the firmware successfully on TL-SG108E v2 and TL-SG105E v3 and of course, the update makes VLAN 1 a normal VLAN as any other VLAN. See this post/thread: https://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?96245-TL-SG-108E-V2-VLAN-1-tagging&p=227857&viewfull=1#post227857

Easy Smart Switches don't have a designated management VLAN. If you need this, use a Smart Switch instead (w/o "Easy" before "Smart"), e.g. TL-SG2008 or the T1500G-xx. Easy Smart Switches are entry-level switches and as such have only a subset of more expensive managed switches (that's the case with all entry-level switches of almost all vendors, BTW).

Thanks for responding.

Well, I'll take all of my easy smart switches out of use - in reality, they've been put in place to save on cables but I realised I can actually move my AP and will essentially be able to swap that switch for a dumb one (or simply stop using the VLAN functionality). The hardest bit is getting the switch out of use in Poland (I live in the UK) where my internet modem is trunked through a VLAN to PFsense.
Disconnecting or resetting this switch results in loss of external access. I'll get it worked around and in the meantime I'll remember this consideration when recommending VLAN switches to friends because I've actually happened to have recommend them to a few people.

I still think despite the fact it's an easy smart switch, it is ridiculous that the management IP can be accessed from any VLAN.

Hello, Can someone confirm that the Netgear product line of the same level - GS305E doe snot suffer from the same issue? Is the problem software or chipset related?
