Hi, I have set up a point to point link using two CPE210's. They are mounted at level heights and aligned optimally. The requirement is for no greater speed than an 802.11g would provide.
I have set them up with 'standard' settings except for having scanned the area for the best channel and selected it manually. the settings are:

Ch - 3
Ch Width 20/40
B/G/N mixed
max tx 60mbs
max tx power 0dbm

this gives me a wireless sig quality of:
-46dBm sig
-103dBm noise
57dB snr
100 CCQ

Physical separation ~ 10 maybe 15meters (yes i know, i suggested a cable too)

Through experimentation i reduced the tx power (on both sides of the link obviously) down to zero as it was almost unusable on the default setting, the lower i set it the better CCQ value i was getting. Now set to zero i cant go any lower & i feel its still too high possible as the link is still unstable - in that i can't get a consistant throughput through the link.

Can anyone suggest a more optimal config? or am i just using them too close together & that's it?

Regards,
Carl

That's a good counter-measure against bad SNR due to overloading of the radios at such a short distance.

The criteria for a stable WiFi link should be SNR and CCQ only. Throughput always will vary - if all data has been sent, negotiated speed will change dynamically, if other APs require AirTime, then throughput will drop, too. If you could reach the maximum throughput according to the WiFi mode in use if sending a constant data stream (the built-in iperf is a good measuring tool for this), then all is well. I personally would use 802.11n fixed mode and set distance to Auto (this will align automatically to 10m, which can't be set manually - Auto setting selects in 0.01 steps, manual settings will be in 0.1 steps).

Anyway, 10-15m is a distance for which CPEs are definitely overkill, so yes, it is too close if the cause for a constant drop in throughput when sending data is overloading of the radios. But -57dB SNR looks o.k.

Thanks for your input R1D2, I had forgotten about the built in speed tester! With settings as previously specified i get a result of RX 18.97 TX 21.95 Total 40.02 (Mbps) I'm still running the stock firmware the units came with: 2.0.0 Build 20161102 Rel. 39691 (4555) I haven't got an 'auto' option in distance so had left it set to 0. I'll try the more recent firmware with that option & see if it makes any difference.... and also setting it to 'n' only & feedback the results.

Its been a while i know, sorry one half of the link is in a building i don't have full access to!

R1D2 - I changed the mode to (n) only as suggested, also updated firmware to latest, oddly the 'auto' option in range is still absent? I'll send a screen grab if you like! I increased the bandwidth a little. I had hoped to limit the throughput using that function but it possibly added to the instability. for the moment i'll leave that alone as the link does appear to be much stabler now.

support113 - Bog off you scammer. post reported.

Should be there in any CPE210 version under "Advanced Wireless Settings":

I see, that's a CPE210 v2. This hardware is different from v1.x meaning there wasn't just a change of corporate identity (new logo) like it was for the different versions of CPE510.

Unfortunately, I don't have v2 hardware here to test, but obviously TP-Link did remove the Auto setting from this model, so just set it manually.
