Hi,

I'd really appreciate some help. I've installed two CPE210 v2 's, one on a boat and the other 20m away on a building. There is a completely clear line of sight between the two devices and they are both at approximately the same height. The link seems to be intermittent from a users perspective, i.e. iPlayer/NowTV buffers a lot. This is a new installation so it's never worked as expected.

At the building end there is a BT Business Smart Hub and a Raspberry Pi for testing. At the boat end there is a Linux server with Plex on it, some TVs, a printer and WiFi access point (for a laptop to get internet) all wired into a switch.

The two CPE210's where configured by the reseller for me but they look pretty much with default settings. Based on research from the forums to troubleshooting I've changed the mode to N only, dropped the max TX rate to MC5, reduced the transmit power to 0 and set the distance setting to 0.1. The channel/frequency is set to auto so I haven't bothered using the spectrum analysis and manually configuring the channel/frequency.

For 20m distance you should use a WiFi device with powerful omnidirectional antennas for mounting on a boat, not a CPE with directional antennas. Probably an EAP110-Outdoor in AP mode on the boat linked to an existing CPE set to client mode at the house would perform better, but that's just a guess.

Any move is one move too much. The CPEs are very sensitive regarding precise alignment, especially on short distances.

Best channel width for 2.4GHz is as small as possible (10 or 20 MHz) for dense-populated areas, but at the expense of lower throughput.
Yes, selecting fixed 'N' mode is better than mixed mode if the remote AP is a CPE, too.

What I don’t get is that the link says it’s been up for 6 days but iPlayer and laptop btowsing doesn’t work.

As I said: the CPEs require a precise alignment. If the link is up, but data can't pass through, the link isn't stable enough for data exchange if there is no other bug in the setup.

Check wether you can ping both CPEs and the remote router from the laptop (set a static IP on the laptop to do so). If pings go through, but browsing doesn't work or sometimes does, but most often not, then it's the link quality causing this kind of problems.

Thanks for the advice. As suggested last week I tried a Edimax BR-6208AC on the boat connected to the TP-Link CPE210 V2 which is mounted on the wall of the office. Interestingly the link was still very latent with web browsing, had low bandwidth with downloads and wasn't stable.

Another option I tried was having the TP-Link CPE210 V2 on the boat connected directly to the BT firewall/router bypassing the TP-Link CPE210 V2 which is mounted on the wall of the office. This gave a much less latent link and downloads were much faster, however, the link still isn't stable.

Over the next couple of days I'm going to try to move the boat TP-Link CPE210 V2 to a fixed location on land, however, I can't help thinking that there is an issue with the TP-Link CPE210 V2 which is mounted on the wall of the office.

I've now moved the client from the boat to a fixed pole. However the link still isnt stable and when it does work it has latency and the bandwidth is low. Any further advice please?

Set channel width to 20 Mhz.

Increase TX power on both CPEs to maximum, not 0.

Set WDS to Auto, not Disabled.

Set Encryption on both CPEs either to Auto or to AES, but not to AES on one CPE and Auto on the other CPE.

Make sure the CPE's are properly aligned to each other (check the LEDs on the CPE in client mode).

Then run a built-in speed test from the Tools menu and post the results.
