A few weeks ago I upgraded my main switch to a TL-SG1016PE.
Generally been very happy with it.
Moved two different brand VOIP phones over to PoE (one Cisco and one Plantronics) and they work great.

So I went looking for a POE-powered (PD) 8-port switch, fed from this switch, which would be in a different room, and allow me to get rid of a power-brick for a switch there.

I purchased the Netgear GS108Tv2, which seems to be generally well reviewed.
(I did update to latest firmware, and make sure it's reset to factory defaults.)

What I have found, however, is:

- If the GS108T is connected to a non-PoE port (ports 9-16) and a power-brick, it works fine, passes traffic, etc.

- If the GS108T is connected to a PoE port (ports 1-8) and a power-brick, I get link lights, but no traffic passes at all.
Looking in Monitoring on the SG1016PE, it shows some RxGoodPkt, but no Tx at all (and no bad packets).

- If I do not connect the power-brick, and I plug it into a PoE port, nothing happens - it does not power on.

Is this a known issue? Is there some setting that I'm missing somewhere, to make the PoE stuff work between those two devices?

Thanks

About the problem which GS108T cannot power on your POE devices, you can check their POE standard, whether they are compatible.
About TL-SG1016PE doesn't show Tx data, you can connect two PCs to the GS108T, and use two PCs to ping each other. To check whether the switch has fault.

The GS108Tv2 claims "unit can be powered by IEEE 802.3af PSE via Ethernet port".

And to clarify my comment about Tx data - it's all fine on all the ports, when they're connected to other devices. Only to this GS108Tv2 is there no Tx when the PoE ports (1-8) are used. Other devices seem to work just fine on ports 1-8, with and without PoE.

It looks like a compatible problem. But the LED lights up, it's strange. PC1----SG1016PE----GS108T----PC2, PC1 cannot ping PC2? Do these two switches have the same IP?

Switches are not on the same IP. I can connect to each of their admin web interfaces.

In my first case above (using a power brick and ports 9-16) the netgear switch works perfectly.
Similarly, if I plug the netgear switch into any other device on my network, it works perfectly.

The only problem is when I plug it into the PoE-capable ports on the TL-SG1016PE. In that case, it does not get power. And if I apply external power with the power-brick, then I get link lights, but it does not pass traffic.

Clearly is some incompatibly.

I was hoping that someone here was say: Oh yes; seen that; just go do X and that will fix it. No such luck, it seems. :-(

I remember that the POE function of the TL-SG1016PE can be configured. Maybe you can try to disable the POE status of the SG1016PE if you don't need to use the POE. If you want to use the POE, you also can check whether the maximum power is over the limit.

Thanks - but I tried all of that.
And I do want PoE - to drive my IP phones; and that's why I bought that little Netear switch, to be powered by PoE.
And per spec, the Netgear's max-draw is well below what the SG1016PE can deliver.
So it should all work - but it simply doesn't. :-(

So, I think I'm just out of luck on using these in the configuration that I wanted.
