I am interested to the TP-LINK Switch TL-SG1008, and on the TPLINK website it says Plug and Play and no configuration required. I am wandering that whether I could configure it if I would like to do some configuration like blocking the access to the internet or monitoring the traffic.

The TD-SG1008G is just an unmanaged switch and that means it does not have configuration settings; I have a simple switch like this as well to extend the Ethernet port to allow more computers to connect to.

Yes, you are right, and if you do want configure the switch, you may need the Managed Switches. And if you just want to extend the Ethernet port for the router, the unmanaged switch could meet the needs.
