Good morning, I have a TP-link CPE 510 v2 that I bought in the United States but I can not contact the network that I need in my country. Can I change the firmware to the international version without breaking wifi? Thanks.

Pharos firmware is always the same no matter which region the device is for. The region code is saved in a flash partition of the device enabling or disabling functions / channels in the firmware according to the device's region setting.

BTW, there is an own forum for the Pharos line of products.

I have the firmware version of the United States that does not allow me to change the country and can not get the frequency of Wi-Fi to connect in the country I am now. Thanks for your quick response.

As I wrote already, there is no such thing as "firmware version of the United States" for CPE510 v2.

There is only one firmware version for all countries.

Why can not I change the country in the configuration?

Why do I get 3 different firmware for CPE510 v2 in this link?

Please read my first reply again. You can't change the country in the configuration, because the country is stored in the flash ROM of the device. It's hard-coded in the device and the firmware will behave according to what's stored in the flash ROM.

Why do I get 3 different firmware for CPE510 v2 in this link?

The firmware versions on your linked website are not different. The ZIP archive names are different, but if you unpack the archives and compare the firmware files contained therein you will find out that all three firmware files are identical byte for byte. Proof:

$ cmp 'CPE510(EU)_V2_180117/CPE510(EU)_2.0-up-ver2-1-11-P1[20180117-rel68885].bin' 'CPE510(US)_V2_180117/CPE510(US)_2.0-up-ver2-1-11-P1[20180117-rel68885].bin'

$

No difference. Identical firmware files. You could even see this if just comparing the release numbers (rel68885).

$ cmp 'CPE510(EU)_V2_180117/CPE510(EU)_2.0-up-ver2-1-11-P1[20180117-rel68885].bin' 'CPE510(UN)_V2_180117/CPE510(UN)_2.0-up-ver2-1-11-P1[20180117-rel68885].bin'

$

No difference either. Identical firmware files.

If you wonder why there are three ZIP archives (for EU / US / UN) with identical firmware files, maybe TP-Link Argentina can answer this (or rather not really answer this because they made three ZIP archives with the same firmware file for no technical reason).

If you think my answer is wrong, just try for yourself what I and many others have been done already many times: flash the UN or EU firmware and check your device afterwards. Flashing will work, but it won't change anything.

There is a way to enable country code selection in the firmware by switching the CPE to test mode, but I will disclose it only if you confirm that you're aware of the ramifications:

  • Enabling test mode and selecting certain settings might violate local law/regulations in your country.
  • Violatig the law/regulation can lead to severe penalties.
  • Enabling this mode is done at one's own risk and responsibility.

Thanks for your quick and detailed response.
I investigate and in my country this change in the configuration is legal. Thanks for letting me know in advance.
I need to know how to activate this test mode, to give wifi functionality.
Greetings, I hope for your help.

Hi morpheuz,

sure:

  1. Log into the CPE using ssh
  2. Enter the command: testmode
  3. Wait for the message »Testmode Enable«
  4. Reboot the CPE

Remember:

  • Test mode will give you access to channels not allowed for WiFi in most countries.
  • Several frequencies are used by other services, interferences can appear.
  • Using channels not allocated to WiFi in your country might be illegal, sensitive penalties can be imminent.
  • Nowadays, regulatory authorities actively scan the WiFi frequency bands for violations of the EIRP limit. You have been warned.
