Hi,

I am trying to apply a newer firmware to my newly bought TL-SG1016DE v3.1 (that is what is mentioned on the box), the new firmware add very useful VLAN1 improvements.

The firmware update is done via a laptop wired on the same LAN using the switch webUI.

Initial state is as follow:

Firmware Version: 1.0.1 Build 20170530 Rel.39380
Hardware Version: TL-SG1016DE 3.0

Desired firmware version:

TL-SG1016DE(UN)_V3_20180416
Published Date: 2018-05-02 Language: English File Size: 427.94 KB
New Features/Enhancement:
1.The port can be removed from VLAN1
2.The port of VLAN1 can choose tagged/untagged

The actual filename for this firmware is TL-SG1016DEv3_en_1.0.1_[20180416-rel55822]_up.bin

The update process goes through normally:

Update progress bar reaches 100%
Displays "Image OK, please wait for writing"
Displays "Restarting the device..."
Then reboots and comes back in the exact same initial state, i.e. same firmware version, nothing updated !

Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

Hi,

You can try to reset your switch and clear the cache of your browser.

I also see that TP-Link releaes the new firmware for TL-SG1016DE V3 20180629. You can have a try.

The hard-reset forced the change of firmware.

All good now, I was also able to flash the latest version with any issue.

Just like the OP I too today(1/10/2021) could NOT update firmware from

current FW=1.0.1 Build 20170530 Rel.39380

latest published=1.0.1 Build 20180629 Rel.58355

The firware update would stop at 11% and issue an error. The old firmware was still in place and fortunatly the switch did still work.

So I tired the suggestions in this forum for clearing browser cache and doing a hardware reset button on front of unit for >5sec. To my surprise the unit would NOT hardware reset. I also logged in and attempted the reset from the admin control options and again after the reboot the unit still had not reset since it still had all my custom settings rather than the factory defaults. So I pwr cycled the unit and than pressed the hardware reset button again and this time it reset to factory defaults. I was than able to login using the factory defaults and upload the latest firmware. I than went back in an manually restored all my desired settings. Hope this helps someone else.
