Model: TL-SG116E
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.0 Build 20180523 Rel.52122

Hi, every time I come home from work, my switch has lost its connection to the router. Not sure how long it takes for this to happen but it's happened every day since I installed the TL-SG116E. My basic structure is: Internet -> Wireless router/modem ->TL-SG116E-> Ethernet cable to computer and Steam Link coming from the switch. I have assigned the switch an IP of 192.168.0.100 because it kept trying to take the default gateway's IP (192.168.0.1), but this doesn't really help. I have to connect to the switch by going to 192.168.0.100 in my web browser and rebooting it. Immediately upon doing that, my connection to the router is restoerd. Wireless connections to my network are unaffected by any of this.

Any ideas what I am doing to cause this? Thanks!

@PepisBepis

Could show some detail for the "connection" you lost? If you mean wired client cannot access internet, please check if the clent still get the correct IP address and whether can ping the gateway. If you mean some application like IPTV lost connection, you may be able to try to disable IGMP snooping.

@Andone That's correct - the wired client (computer) cannot access Internet until I reboot the TL-SG116E. I tried pinging the gateway the last time this happened and it could not ping the gateway (until, of course, the TL-SG116E is rebooted).

@PepisBepis

It's strange that you can access the switch but cannot ping the gateway. Is there any settings on your switch ?

Try to ping the switch, not the gateway when this happens again. Can you ping the switch?

As @Andone wrote, check your PC's IP, did it change?

Next, check the switch's port status in the web UI and post a screenshot of the port's status (both ports, the one to the PC and to the the router). Check negotiated speeds.

We need much more information to be able to help. What are the IPs of router, switch, PC? What is the gateway settings on the PC? What is the DNS setting on PC? Etc. etc.

oT@R1D2 Appreciate the help. Yes, when it happens I can ping the switch (192.168.0.100) but not the gateway (192.168.0.1). My PC's IP does not change - always remains 192.168.0.4. Port settings on the switch in the image below. Port 1 is coming from the wireless router/modem, Port 2 is going to my PC. Which DNS settings specifically should I be looking at? The router/modem DNS settings have not been changed from stock, to my knowledge. ipconfig is blank on Primary DNS Suffix, Node type is Hybrid, IP Routing not enabled, WINS Proxy not enabled.

@Andone There are settings on my switch - it says "Unmanaged", which is why I bought it, but still there seem to be many settings haha. I haven't changed any settings from default except disabling "DHCP Setting" and assigning it the IP of 192.168.0.100.

I really appreciate everyone's help!

SG116E is unmanaged Pro switch. Maybe "Pro" means it still can be managed... Your physical connection seemly has not problem. Maybe your network has the IP conflict for 192.168.0.100?

I second @Andone's opinion (yes, TL-SG116E is manageable, it's an Easy Smart switch). The switch port to the router is up and running.

What you can try:

Assign another IP outside of the DHCP pool to the switch. For example, set it to 192.168.0.2 if this IP is free and make sure the DHCP pool starts at a higher address (e.g. 192.168.0.10).

Maybe the router has a Wake-on-LAN mechanism turned on. In this case it should turn on sooner or later if being pinged (I have a device which turns on later).

If the router has a second LAN port, you can try to connect the PC and ping the switch from this site. Before doing so, check the ARP table of the router.

Hope this helps to identify the problem.
