Hi guys i am new to this switch thing so bare with me. I bought a tp link T2600G-28TS(TL-SG3424) for my home network without knowing this will be such a hassle :) at first i was able to play around the menu of the switch but the internet was not working so i decided to hit in the L3 interface the DHCP option. But after that surprise surprise i wasnt able to login to the menu of the switch no matter what i did. I read the FAQ that i must do a factory reset with the Serial cable that is in the box but at the moment i dont have a PC or laptop having the serial port. My question is, how can i login again in the switch interface and be able to make modification? I did ip scan but without success, i cannot see any device on the network so i can login to an ip. sorry if im ambigue, i am very new to this. thanks

@skaterel, if you did set the switch to DHCP, find out the DHCP IP address it got assigned to by the DHCP server. You can connect to the switch using this IP address then.

 

If that's to much hassle for you, disconnect the switch from the network, connect it only to your PC/laptop and reboot. Then you can use the static IP 192.168.0.1 again to do the initial setup. Set the switch's IP to an unused, static IP from your network to deploy it the first time. Also see the User's Guide or Installation Guide, it's descibed in great detail there.

 

Rule of thumb: NEVER use DHCP for stationary devices such as switches. DHCP has not been designed for stationary devices, only for mobile devices. If you insist to use DHCP for a stationary device, first prepare a static MAC-to-IP mapping in the DHCP server before connecting the device to your network.

@R1D2 hey man thanks for the quick reply. I would love the solution you described to find out what ip the DHCP has given to the switch but i am unable to find out. l did several IP scans with different tools but i cannot seem to see the switch. The solution with the reboot is a bit tricky since i need a computer with serial port, but if that is the only option i will procure one. If you have any other ideea how to find the switch ip please share it. many thanks nontheless. #cheers

@skaterel, if you did set the switch to DHCP, you would not need to reset it to gain access to the switch using its default IP 192.168.0.1. You just need to disconnect the switch from the network and reboot it to have it falling back to the default IP if there is no DHCP server responding (unless you have changed the fall-back IP, too – then only a factory reset helps).
