Hi @ll and thaks for your time,

i am new to omada and have some questions, yes ! i could google it but i dont trust search engines.

I bought 2 EAPs 115v4 and a EAP 245v3 for testing.

So here i go !

 

1.  Can i manage any omada access point to EAP or Pharos controller and vice versa or are there specific ones that can be managed with one or the other ?

2.  How about routing ? Is it possible to add router and switches to the EAP controller ?

3.  Is there any suggested Flash or recovery for the APs ?

 

 

Appreciate any help.

  1. It does not make much sense to me to compare Omada EAPs with Pharos CPEs. Omada EAPs are for local WLANs while Pharos CPEs are for long-range directional outdoor links (Wireless Broadband or Fixed Wireless Access as used by WISPs). This are completely different use cases. For comparing EAPs or CPE/WBS (but not EAPs with CPEs) use the new »Compare« function on TP-Link websites introduced recently:


     
  2. Pictures which illustrate use cases are just application examples.
     
  3. OC200 allows to disable its reset button, but reset buttons of EAPs and CPEs cannot be disabled. Their reset buttons are already hidden (you would have to climb on a ladder to reach an EAP mounted on the ceiling or to reach a CPE mounted on an antenna mast). If someone wants to screw up settings intentionally, he could just cut the Ethernet cable.

 

Just for the record: I'm not from TP-Link and do not speak for them.

  1. Omada EAPs can be managed using an Omada controller. Pharos devices can be managed using Pharos Control. You can not manage EAPs with Pharos Control nor can you manage Pharos CPE/WBS devices with Omada controller.
     
  2. I don't understand this question. Omada controller is an AP controller, nothing more. You connect this controller to your existing network. The controller does not interfere with routers or switches and it does not do any routing or switching on its own behalf.
     
  3. To recover an AP from a bad setup or forgotten password you can reset it to factory defaults. If you bricked a device, you can contact TP-Link support for further recovery instructions which might or might not exist for the specific device.

3: That is helpfull to know ! So enabling firewall you mean :-)

@Tsial, you're welcome.

 

We have a customer (hotel) who did lock up his TL-WDR4300 APs in a metal box with padlock (with spares for the antennas of course) to mitigate against adult guests pressing the reset button. I have to admit this is no option for EAPs ...
