Model: T1500G-10MPS
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: T1500G-10MPS(UN)_V1_170607

Hi everyone,

I have a T1500G-10MPS V1 and currently running with firmware T1500G-10MPS(UN)_V1_170607

However, when I go to the T1500G-10MPS support page here

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/t1500g-10mps/v2/

for hardware V2 product, there is a newer firmware T1500G-10MPS(UN)_V2_190424

and in the description it says If your device's Hardware Version is 1.0, after upgrading to this firmware, the old configuration will be lost.

Does this mean I can flash this V2 firmware into my V1 switch?

I don't want to brick my switch as it's running fine, but if there is new firmware available I definitely want to try it.

Thanks for the help

I think you can try to update. Usually, if a firmware isn't suitable for a given hardware version, the switch refuses the update with an error message »wrong image«.

I did upgrade T1500G-8T and T1500G-10PS HW V1 with latest firmware versions V2 and it worked fine. Last T1500G-10MPS I got hands on were HW V2 already, so I couldn't test this model.

But if want to be 100% sure before updating the switch on your own risk, I suggest you send an email to TP-Link support and ask them.

just to come back and report that I already put V2 firmware into my V1 switch and it's running fine

I looked into the firmware setting of these tplink managed switches and they are probably trying to copy cisco and contains multiple boot images

so the chance that the switch will break is very low

also surprisingly I didn't lose my config after the firmware update, unlike what says in the V2 firmware notes

@pixielark.

dual-boot images have been in smart switches since the beginning. I still miss a function to just boot from the backup image without permanently activating it. This would allow to test a firmware image before deciding to permanently activate it. At least a fail-over function at boot time would be great in case a firmware image got corrupted during update. I once did implement such a functionality in an OEM device for a customer.

Re:T1500G-10MPS firmware - V1 okay with T1500G-10MPS(UN)_V2_20200805

@pixielark - Just finished a careful upgrade from V1_170607 on Flash version 1.3.0, incremental through T1500G-10MPS(UN)_V2_20200805 and all is working well with this refurbished V1.

So, I can say thumbs-up on the latest firmware with the older hardware, but it will technically still be End Of Life hardware-wise. But I'm happy to have the new GUI interface and look and feel working.

@jhlui1

I think it's important to upgrade from V1 to V2 firmware, since the latest V2 firmware can be managed by the new Omada SDN Software Controller

If you have the time and effort to invest, I would strongly suggest you to look into migrate to the controller to manage your switch (beware that some feature are not available in the controller)

Help with firmware upgrade please! Re:T1500G-10MPS firmware - V1 okay with T1500G-10MPS(UN)_V2_20200805

@jhlui1

Hi! I was wondering if you could outline your steps to get this upgrade done!  I have a v1 T1500g-10mps

..current firmware is

Hardware Version:   T1500G-10MPS 1.0
  Firmware Version:   1.0.0 Build 20170607 Rel.35832(s)
  Bootloader Version   TP-LINK  BOOTUTIL(v1.0.0)

I tried putting the v2 T1500G-10MPS(UN)_V2_20200805 firmware from 9/22/20 and it didnt work...is there some special step I need to follow?

Thanks for your help!
