Model: TL-SG108E
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version:

Greetings readers ,

One of my TL-SG108E switches is a hardware v5 and sends a RRCP-0x25 query once every second on all ports.
The other one a v1 is not doing that.

The configuration of the switches is very simple. There are no vlans in addition to the defaults.

17:48:19.923710 b0:95:XX:XX:XX:XX (oui Unknown) > Broadcast, RRCP-0x25 query
17:48:20.924793 b0:95:XX:XX:XX:XX (oui Unknown) > Broadcast, RRCP-0x25 query

RRCP seams to be the Realtek Remote Control Protocol for control of switches and routers.

Questions:
* Is the querying at that rate any good?
* Can it be switched off?
* Is there a way to raise the interval to at least 30 or 60 seconds?

What settings in the switch can trigger that behaviour?

Thank you,

Taucher

@Taucher

Hey,

For your questions:

1. RRCP-0x25 query is mainly used to detect loops in the network environment. Long querying interval will not detect loops in time.

2. Yes, you can switch it off here. But you can't adjust the parameter.

Hi Somnus,

thank you for responding

I know I'm a bit late but I will try out your suggestion to switch of the loop prevention and report then how it worked.

Loop detection should not be required, because the network is a short tree.

Adjusting was just the second best option after preventing the flood of packets.

Hi Somnus, finally I found the time to report the result. It Works. The packages are gone. Many thanks for the idea and explanation, Greetings, Taucher
