I have exactly the same problem, was updating firmware from 1.1.0 to 1.1.2 with the ESCU tool and get the message that the firmware upgrade fails for unknow reason. Now only the power led is shine and the ESCU tool cant find the switch, also no chance with the IP 192.168.0.1 in browser, is it completely http://www.dict.cc/englisch-deutsch/completely.html death?

And as you receive the new switch from RMA you do again the update over ESCU or over the browser?

I open now a support ticket, lets see what TP-LINK saying about this bug.

I had a similar issue to this where, after upgrading my new TL-SG108E 2.0 to firmware version 1.0.2, I couldn't see it in the Easy Smart Configuration Utility anymore. It seems that the update prevented the Configuration Utility from working; however, I was still able to manage the switch through its web interface (which is not well-advertised).

I realize this problem isn't the same as the one from this thread: I have hardware revision 2.0, and I didn't see a "Firmware upgrade failed" message. Google brought me to this thread when I was trying to figure out my issue, though, so I want to let other people who run into the same thing know that their switch isn't bricked--there is a web interface on version 2.0 at least.

i can see it is an old post, but never the less for ppl with the same problem.  here is a fix that worked for me.

It also happend to me after upgrading.

it seems that i was wrong with the equipment  model. mine was sg108pe (UN) VER 2.0

and i upgraded with firmware for  sg108e (UN) VER 2.0

the only difference is the P,  well after I upgraded agian from the web interface all was fixed

I also had the same issue today, with version 4, and vanished from the config tool, I noted that my DHCP network is not the standard 192.168.0.xxx. (its actually a strange 10.0.5.xxx range) so thus I disconnected the switch, and my laptop from office network, simply plugged in directly, and set a static IP address on my laptop to 192.168.0.100

I was thus able to get to the web interface on 192.168.0.1 which immediately presented me with a firmware upgrade message request, so was able to browse for the new firmware I had on local drive, then it upgraded OK.

After this, and plugging back into my main office network it picked up the new DHCP address, and the Config tool was able to find it.

@raxor I have in the end been able to achieve a good result on a BRICKED SG108E v1.

Before you start, step 2 is probably better on a Linux machine to achive NMAP scan over the sw 192.168.0.1

  1. Configure network interface with an IP on the same subnet

IP = 192.168.0.10

NETMASK = 255.255.255.0

GW = 192.168.0.1

( after that, try to ping to switch ip 192.168.0.1 if you reach the host, continue to next step )

2. From linux machine, execute this command (install it if you don't have: sudo apt install nmap)

3. Once you are done, execute: sudo nmap -Pn -sS -sV 192.168.0.1

4. With the results on screen you can see something like this:

5. As you can see, there is some pages on the switch HTTP server. If you try to connect on http://192.168.0.1 you will not see anything BUT

6. You can enter on one of those pages like that

http://192.168.0.1/menu.cgi

7. Now you are able to upload the firmware by two methods, TFTP or HTTP (easy way = http)

8. When you select HTTP Firmware Upgrade, select "browse file" and choose the correct firmware.

9. You are DONE, wait a few minutes and you can loging through Easy Smart Configuration Utility again.

NOTE: Is mandatory that SW will be on "Loader Mode" you can check for example trying to access to http://192.168.0.1/login.html and see that

Hope this help to everybody to bring back to live a TP-LINK SG108E (in my case V1) yes
