WA5210G connecting two houses HELP

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WA5210G
Hardware Version : V2
Firmware Version :
ISP :
I have an odd ball question that I'm sure someone in this forum can answer.
I'm not a techie, so bare with me as I explain.
I"m sharing a wifi connection with my sister. I have the WA5210G set up as a repeater in my house, picking up her signal.
Nothing is hardwired into my 5210G, it's all wireless.
No issues on the connection as it has be working without a hitch, but here's my issue:
I recently purchased a ROKU and would like to start using it. BUT, ROKU won't connect to the "local network". I found out the router in my sister's house (which I connect to with my WA5210G)
is not set up with WPA or WPA2. The ROKU will not work unless it's WPA or WPA2. If I change the settings on her router, I would have to set up a password. Without getting into details,
she does not want any passwords on her wifi.
So, my question is, can I change the settings on my WA5210G to this WPA or WPA2 without affecting her wifi? (the original source of the internet)
If I can, which mode would I need to the 5210G in to do so?
Can someone give me a non techie explanation of an answer to this?

I've tried to understand the differences in all the settings, but everything I've found and read assumes everyone knows computer talk, so it makes no sense to me
OK, so if I can connect it right to the 5210, what's the point of having a router hook up? Won't that solved my original issue?
What am I missing here.
On post #1 you posted wanted a no techie explanation
On post #9 you posted things don't make sense to you
And now on post #11 you wanted that answer on -#2
It's your device, your issue, your decision on what to do
Don't forget this is a forum for people like you and us, we don't get paid, or hire by Tp-Link, we do it for the love of wifi.
It's your call on what to do or not to, it's free will,
read post #1, lacks of info. and from there we start to accomplish a solution, right now you still don't know how your 52 it's set.
Don't forget it's your device
Good Luck.

Let me see if I got this right and put it in my kind of terms.
My wa5210g picks up a signal from somewhere. (my case, my sister's house).
It then takes that signal and rebroadcasts it to a further distance. (in my case, my house).
If I need to change the security settings, I have to do it from the original source. (sister's house)
(this is how I understand what a repeater does, but I could be wrong).
Now, what I think you're telling me is:
My wa5210g picks up a signal from somewhere (sister's house).
In addition to rebroadcasting that signal, the 5210 takes that signal, turns it into another signal that only I can use, run it through a hard wire cheapo router
and bingo, I now have my own internet signal with my own password without anything happening to my sister's internet.
(this is how I understand an access point to be, but I could be wrong)
So, am I understanding this right?

You had asked me to let you know the wireless routers I have. I have 2 of them:
Linksys Wireless-G 2.4ghz 54mbps WRT54G
Linksys Wireless-B 2.4ghz 802.11h BDFW11S4
I also have a modem: Terayon TJ715x, but I don't know if it works with what I'm trying to do.
So, for my situation, do either of these two Linksys work? If so, which one would be better?

GREAT! Thank you!
Just to make sure I understand this correctly....
I change settings on the wa5210g and make it an Access Point (picking up the signal from Sister's house)
Connect the WRT54G to the 5210g with a cable.
Then I can change the security settings on the wrt54g without affecting the original signal.
Would I need a special program to change the settings? Do I have to type something into my browser to look at the setting for the wrt54g? Or do I connect that to my laptop directly to change the settings?

Sorry but you are wrong and you are right
if I explain it, you will end up wronger, lets go step by step and you will end up understanding
first just add the router, if you have issues, we will concentrate on the router only, once that is solved, then we will set your sisters 5210, AP and the 5210 at your home will be set Client mode
I undelined the last sentence so you undertand the wrong part, that sentence in your post it opposite.

Umm.....there is no 5210 at my sisters. My current set up is only ONE 5210, at my house. That picks up the wireless signal from my sister's house.
I don't know what kind of router she has but I know it's not a 5210. If it's important, I'll get it.

Yes my bad.
still the same, connect the router and run your Roku, once you have that working 24/7 then we will carry on
I got mislead with your post
I change settings on the wa5210g and make it an Access Point (picking up the signal from Sister's house
if you do that you will lose your internet

Whew, you had me scared for a minute! lol
OK, so just power up the wrt54G and plug into the 5210 and it will be working?
Are there settings I need to change within the 5210 or the 54G? (not for security, but just to get internet to a device....like a laptop)
I only ask because, well....that just seems odd to me it would be that simple. But then again, I don't know what I'm doing! Thanks!
