I had an old 10/100 router connected directly to my cable modem.

I used the Obihai 202 VOIP box connected to the router for my household landline. I had choppy sound quality on outgoing calls when there was too much traffic including having too many tabs open in Chrome.

I bought the TP-LINK TL-SG108.

Three questions.

1. I set this up in reverse order, is there any downside to this setup?

I know the usual install method is CABLE MODEM --> ROUTER -->SWITCH. But my connection is ROUTER --> SWITCH --> ROUTER AND VOIP since the 10/100/1000 switch is faster than the 10/100 modem. Had I installed it the traditional way, the VOIP box would still be going through the router therefore not resolving my problem.

2. How does QoS work with this switch? My VOIP box is compatible with QoS IEEE 802.1p same as the switch. Since there are no settings, does it "know" to prioritize voice calls or am I going to have the same problems as before?

3. Can I connect additional TP-LINK TL-SG108s to the first one?

Thanks in advance.

SG108 is an unmanaged switch, plug and play. Is it SG108E?
