I have a home network that includes a wireless router connected to my cable modem. Unfortunately the wireless router has only 4 available ports and I need 6. I am thinking of buying a 8-Port Gigabit Switch remove the wireless router and connect all my 6 devices using wired connection as I have RJ45 connection to all my rooms. will this work?
The connection would be
cable modem---> 8-Port Gigabit Switch----> 6 different devices like smart TV, PS3, VOIP phone, Blue ray player, desk top

Will TP-LINK SOHO TL-SG1008D be suitable?

Can the modem PPPoE dial up? If it can, I think it is OK.
But, why don't connect the switch to the router? The topology can be like this "ISP--modem(bridge mode)--router--switch--PCs".
