Model: TL-SG1016PE
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have a fairly large home network based around an SG1016PE switch with two ES208GP switches for outbuildings and a total of 8 EAPs plus an OC200 hardware controller.  The ES208 switches are Omada-managed but the SG1016PE cannot be Omada-managed and I'd like to upgrade it to a switch that can be Omada-managed (must have more than 16 ports, mostly PoE).  This seemed fairly easy and I bought an Access SG3428MP - 28 ports.  Perfect specification . . . except it is 13 inches deep and my cabinet is only 12 inches deep!  So I'm now looking at the Agile ES228GMP, which is only 7-inches deep (same as the SG1016PE) but is only 16 ports.  So my question is could I use 2x ES228GMP units and connect them together via their non-PoE uplink ports?  I'm guessing I can but have no idea about the implications in terms of Omada management and network topology.  In particular, I have a lot (30+) IoT devices connected as wifi clients and I recall reading somewhere that the Omada Agile switches can only 'see' a limited number of clients, meaning that many of them might be invisible to the controller.  Any ideas or suggestions (apart from getting a deeper cabinet!)?

@Mike-UK You could try for the SG2428P, which is only 9 inches deep, and has 24 PoE+ ports for you to use.

You would theoretically be able to use two ES228GMPs with one connected downstream from the other; I wouldn't connect them both to an uplink and to each other at the risk of having to deal with network loops (either you connect one downstream from the other or you connect both to your upstream router, not both).

Actually, I meant 2x ES220GMP (16-port) because the ES228GMP is also 13-inches deep!

But never mind because I think you've solved my problem with the SG2428P suggestion as the spec looks very similar to the SG3428P.  I'm not sure how I missed that one, although I may have discounted it as  I was focussing only on the Omada '-brand' switches and the sg2428P seems to be a 'Jetstream' branded switch - all a bit confusing!

I'll read the specs more carefully for a comparison but the main thing is that it has more than my current 16 ports and is Omada managed - plus it will actually fit into my cabinet!

Thanks very much for your help!

@Mike-UK The TL-SG2428P is the older version; the SG2428P is part of the Omada stack. Kind of important distinction to make, as the TL model is end of life. Best of luck with your network!

You can freely daisy chain switches of any kind, this is not a problem.

ES series switches currently do not report client IP to the controller, but this does not mean they have a limited client capability.  This limitation will be resolved in future updates i believe, but not in the short term.  Controller 6.2 with an adapted gateway will allow you to see all DHCP serverd client IPs.

You network realistically is quite small, so dont worry about limitations
