Model: TL-SX3008F
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.20

I have two SX3008F's. One of them, for some reason, always gets stuck on boot. I hooked up the serial port and found that every time it starts up, it gets interrupted by bootutil and needs me to hit '3' to continue startup. The other one doesn't do this. Is this a setting somewhere I'm missing? I just want it to boot normally unless I actually hook up the serial port and interrupt it...

Hi,@kayson1

Thank you for your patience while awaiting our reply.

Based on our assessment, the issue is most likely caused by a physical malfunction of the serial port itself. This fault triggers an incorrect input detection during the startup phase, which interrupts the normal boot process. We would like to clarify that the 0 displayed on the interface does not necessarily mean that a 0 input was detected — any interruption that occurs during the boot process will show a value of 0 at this step.

This is most likely a hardware issue that cannot be fully resolved through remote troubleshooting or configuration adjustments. If your switch is still within the warranty period, we recommend that you contact your retailer or our local support team to arrange a replacement.

If you have any further questions or additional details to share, please feel free to let us know at your convenience.

@kayson1 If you back up the config and then factory reset the switch, before restoring the configuration back, does the issue persist? Just trying to see if it's a configuration issue or potentially a hardware issue.

If it persists even after the switch is factory reset, you might have a deeper issue.

@NeilR_M I reset it, shut it down, booted it up without a serial cable plugged in, waited a couple min, then when I plugged the serial port in, it was already in bootutil...

 Hi,@kayson1

Thank you for posting on our business forum.

To help us troubleshoot the issue effectively, could you kindly assist us by confirming the following information:

1.Has this switch been working properly before? When did you first notice this issue?
2.Did you make any modifications to the switch before the problem arose, such as adjusting restart settings, upgrading firmware or other changes?
3.Could you please share details about the switch's status during a restart? For example, the behavior of the indicator lights, and how long the entire restart process takes.
Thank you very much for your kind cooperation.

  @Nathan-TP

1. I don't know when the issue started. It's happened before, but the switch generally doesn't get rebooted often so I just ignored it thinking it will go away.

2. It happened both before and after a recent firmware update. And after a factory reset on the switch

3. If I reboot the switch (via controller or disconnect power), it stays with the power light on forever. No other lights turn on ever. If I wait, say, 10-15min and plug in a serial cable, I can see that its in boot-util waiting for a command. If I hit the "start" option, then it boots up in a couple min.

Thanks!

Hi,  @kayson1

Thank you for providing this valuable information.

This status typically occurs when the serial port receives input during the boot process, which interrupts the normal startup sequence.

We would recommend checking your serial port for potential issues such as oxidation or short-circuiting.

Furthermore, we also suggest connecting your PC to the RJ45 serial port, power cycling the SX3008F, and reviewing the complete boot log.

I cleaned both serial ports with 91% isopropyl alcohol and inspected them for physical damage. Both look fine.

I connected my laptop to the non-usb serial port, and rebooted the switch from omada controller. Here is the output:

The system is going down NOW!
Sent SIGTERM to all processes
Sent SIGKILL to all processes
Requesting system reboot
Restarting system.

Hit any key to stop autoboot: 0

Something is entering a "0" on the serial port that interrupts the boot, but it's not me! (Obviously, because it happens when nothing is connected to the serial port too). Is this some kind of config?
