hello all

I cannot configure vlans
I am following the directions at: http://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-788.html

This is what happens:
1. after installing software and connecting to the switch, I can get full internet and ping all local devices
2. I create a vlan per the instructions using vlan 101 and 102 (no PVID) and I can get internet BUT, I can ping all devices regardless of VLAN
3. I create the PVID, and now have no internet, nor can ping any devices.

Can someone tell what I am doing wrong?
Oh and yes, I am clicking the "Save" button on top after each step

Thanks for any input

I think that normaly the port where the router is connected to has to be tagged?
could you provide more info of you set-up? it seems that you don't have the same setup as in you posted link.

Benny,

I found out the solution......
1- had to flash firmware to newest one
2- discovered my configuration was incorrect

I had:
VLAN 1 (default) 1-8

Ports 1,3 5 had PC's attached and Port 8 connected to Router

my INCORRECT configuration was:
VLAN 101 = ports 1,2,3
VLAN 102 = ports 5

Worked fine until I added the PVID then lost internet

CORRECT configuration should have been:

VLAN 101 = Ports 1,2,3, and 8 (uplink to router)

VLAN 102= Ports 5 and 8

SAVE

PVID = same ports as VLANS SAVE

Now it works great.

My mistake was not adding in the uplink port

Now I can ping within VLAN, and ping to web
cannot ping across VLANS (should be this way)

My next step is adding a printer for both VLAN to print to port 7

Then my VLANS must be redone to add port 7 to each and I will have access to the printer from either Vlan, but still blocking access across.... Providing this logic is correct it should work

problems configuring sg-108E SOLVED

First, Thanks to the folks who took part in my learning process ( I am very new to this whole thing)
I now have two VLANS sharing a printer.
I do not know if it is the "correct" way, but it works. So if anyone can point out how to configure in a more proper way, please share so I can learn more.

Here is the finally configuration on my TP-Link TL-SG108E v2.0

Ports used are:
1 = pc
2= pc
3=pc
4=pc
5=pc
6 = blank
7= network printer
8= wan / router

802.1Q VLAN configured as such:

VLAN 101 = ports 1-3, 7,8 PVID 101 = 1-3

VLAN 102 = ports 4-8 PVID 102 = 4-6

In Both PVID's I did not include the printer ( Port 7)

Click SAVE to save configuration

Now,
I can ping all devices within VLAN 101 and have internet access; access and use the printer on port 7; cannot ping devices in VLAN 102

I can ping all devices within VLAN 102 and have internet access; access and use the printer on port 7; cannot ping devices in VLAN 101

The problem I had with the printer stemmed from me including port 7 in the PVID.

I hope my journey will help another NOOB such as myself. And, please, if I can configure a more proper way, please comment.
