Hello,
I am having the same issue as many many others posted elsewhere (Amazon and co). This is the only thing why this switch is "not good and not acceptable" for me.
TP-Link disabled completely modifications for VLAN 1 even in Web interface as in the mgmt software.
My issue is, that our company's network topology even uses tagged VLAN 1 packets in the "Switch Inter-connections", untagged packes are only allowed on the client side ports. To get the TL-SG-108E switches part of the network (we already ordered 10 pcs of them) they must accept and repeat VLAN 1 tagged packets but all the options to modify that are greyed out. In this case I need to set some ports VLAN 1 to be tagged (for the way to another switch) some to be forbid (when they should NOT be part of VLAN 1) and some to be untagged (for client connections).
I know, that you can not compare a HP enterprise switch with this "cheap crap" but the "cheap crap" may be also very good and usable with only unlocking this feature.
For 99% I think that it is only a software limitation, so with a modification in firmware this problem should be completely solved.
Even the setting of the mgmt vlan should be possible!!!
Please, please, please, if possible dear TP-Link team, please implement a fully working VLAN configuration into that brand of switches.
I or we know, that it is possible to close out ourself of the web interface but therefore we have a good working reset button ;)
Thank you
dirk

Is there any new firmware for V2? Or are we abandoned?

If your device is TL-SG108E v2, you could try to upgrade this v3 firmware, kindly noted.

Thanks. I tried V3 on my V2 and worked.
I could see now I can modify VLAN 1. Great!
But ..... I still can reach web admin tool from any VLAN or via easy configuration tool. Is there a way to avoid this?
Best regards

Management VLAN
2018-01-10 00:36:42
The management VLAN must be one and just one. It's the basic otherwise no real isolation!!!!
Despite new firmware these switches are still not usable in a prod enviroment.
I cannot wait for anymore moving to other brand/models

I hope you mean "one VLAN", not "VLAN one". :D
Yes, a management VLAN would be needed in a professional business-class environment, but hey, you won't tell me that you use Easy Smart Switches in your big data center, would you?

Hello everyone,
Sorry to keep you all waiting so long for the updates.
We have just finish the development and test for the new official firmware of TL-SG105E and TL-SG108E, please go to download them in our official website:
TL-SG105E FW20171214: http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-SG105E_V3.html#Firmware
TL-SG108E FW20171214: http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-SG108E_V3.html#Firmware
If you have come across with any issues, please feel free to follow in this post or contact us via phone/email.
Besides, if your TP-Link devices are TL-SG108PE or TL-SG1016PE, I'm afraid it would still need a few days for the official firmware released, maybe at the end of this month if all goes well.
Finally, thank you all for kindly choosing TP-Link products, and thank you all for kindly sharing your feedback and advice!

Have you removed the port as a member of vlan1? I haven't tried but i hope the web admin is not accessible once a port is removed from vlan1, proper fix would be a management vlan but i'm okay if removing vlan1 from a port works.
upgraded, config is okay but admin password reset to default, was just about to order a different brand switch.

802.1q VLANs, Management etc.....
2018-01-10 18:35:04
Usually I deal with big Cisco switches (Nexus, IOS etc...) but basic networking is the same from low to high end swicthes!!!
Small business switches are important and interesting for LABs, small meeting rooms, SOHO but they should be secure and compliant to basic std protocols.
Forget QoS and other cool stuff, be focused to secure management, VLAN isolation, loop protection and MAC table.
Today I tried to link a TL-SG108E (fw TL-SG108E(UN)_V3_20171214) to a Cisco 3850 by 802.1q but I was not able to find on TP-Link a working config with just 2 simple VLANs (#26 Users and #145 Guests).
Same problem also using a Nortel 5510. For such setup no problem with an old 8 ports Netgear.
I think TP-Link Easy Smart switcher are a good HW which need a totally review of the Firmware (no bug fix only) performed by a Networker.
At the moment they are unusuable.

I agree that they were unusable even for the audience those switches are targeting (small home businesses with requirement for VLANs and few other features. That's why I reported this VLAN1 issue exactly one year ago, in January 2017 to TP-Link and on several occasions later. Glad that they finally recognized and solved this problem.
However, for my own office network I use TL-SG2008 smart switches and T1600G as a core switch, which both have all those features I (and you) require.
Maybe you will disagree, but for my company TP-Link smart switches are the way to go for businesses with usual networking requirements, while we offer Easy Smart switches for our customers who need a cheap and very easy manageable switch to just support Multi-SSID WiFi networks based on VLANs, but no features usually found in more expensive smart switches. I'm sure it's a marketing strategy to offer Easy Smart switches for newcomers to the world of managed switches, but not for high-end users. It's really a pity, but often customers prefer to save a few bucks even in the expense of security. Bad habit, but see the meltdown/spectre disasters - same attitude.
Of course, it would be an advantage to have a dedicated management VLAN on Easy Smart switches, maybe TP-Link changes this, too. If so, the better.
I too was thinking about replacing the Easy Smart switches by Netgear GS108E/GS108PE, but I don't like them for a couple of reasons and so I will send both Netgear switches back. For our support team, it's important to not have too much diversity in our product line.
