What’s the Difference between Pre-release, Beta, Release Candidate, and Stable Firmware Versions?
Omada lets users test new device features through different firmware releases. This document covers the differences between these firmware types.
Beta/Pre-release
Beta and pre-release firmware allow users to test new device features before they are officially released. However, they may come with stability issues or unintended behaviors, which will be corrected before the next stage of a firmware’s lifecycle.
Pre-release firmware is exclusive to the Community forums and typically releases a few weeks before Beta firmware advertised on the Omada controller.
Release Candidate
Once the trial period of a pre-release firmware is completed and any issues are worked out, a release candidate version of the firmware will be available and pushed to Omada controllers. This version will include the features of the beta/pre-release while also including any fixes to bugs or issues discovered during the trial period.
Stable
This is typically referred to as release firmware, and has been tested both internally and by the community and deemed stable overall. You can typically download and install these on devices with no drawbacks.
How do I get Beta and Release Candidate firmware?
Access to the Beta and Release Candidate firmware requires that you opt into the Early Access Program on the Omada controller. You can find the setting in the Global View under Settings > System Settings > Controller Updates on an Omada Controller. On a Fusion Gateway, it’s located under Settings > System Settings > Advanced.
