Model: CPE510
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 2.2.1 Build 20190417 Rel. 34231 (5553)

Hi,

On a CPE510 v3 (US) I just received
It is indicatedthat the firmwawre version is  2.2.1 Build 20190417 Rel. 34231 (5553)

On https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/cpe510/#Firmware the last online firmware is

CPE510_3.0-up-ver2-2-0-P9[20190125-rel36276]

Why is the firmware in the device more up-to-date than the one on the website (by 3 months and both are from 2019) ?

Thanks.

Thanks Jc

Pharos firmware releases on the support site always have been a big chaos.

You can find Pharos v2.2.1 here: https://www.tp-link.com/de/support/download/wbs510/#Firmware

Pharos firmware is and always has been an universal firmware. Model and region information is stored in a reserved partition on the devices, so the Pharos firmware adapts itself to the model and region defined in the device it runs on. Thus, you can install the WBS510 firmware on CPE210 v1, CPE510 and WBS210, too.

Notable exceptions are:

  • CPE210 hardware versions > v1 have their own firmware branch (due to modified hardware).
  • CPE610 always had its own firmware branch.

If you try to install Pharos firmware on a device which is not supported by the particular firmware you selected, the upgrade will be rejected, so there is no risk to upgrade to the wrong firmware.

No rule without exception, so the above does not hold true for early CPE610 firmware versions, which could be installed on CPE210/510 WBS210/510, too (I guess it allowed this by accident, wrong device list in the CPE610 firmware branch). However, CPE610 firmware does not support LED #5 of the CPE and WBS 210/510 models, so it's not reommended to install CPE610 firmware – which is currently at v2.2.3 released in May, 2020 – on any other model.

@JC-D

Hi, I tried upgrading to the firmware 20190125 from the TP-Link website, not aware of much big difference though, I feel they are the same firmware.

According to TP-Link support, there will be newer firmware released recently. So I'm ready for it. Cheers!
