Hello,

I have deployed several EAP110-Outdoor EAPs and it would be very helpful to utilize channels 12 & 13. Currently, in the GUI, the last available channel I have is 11. I *think* the firmware version is (US) which I know doesn't allow 12 & 13, so I downloaded the (EU) version, however when I tried to flash an EAP it failed saying that's the version I already have. Tried both the (US) and (EU) firmware and got the message "The version is the same as the running software". Somehow it doesn't distinguish between the 2.

My question: How do I change the region/country on the EAP to allow for the use of channels 12 & 13?

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers!

P.S. They are deployed in Thailand where 12/13 is a-ok. I could only source the US version at the time.

Yes, EU & US versions are the same currently. A menu for selecting a region was there once, but it has been removed with newer firmware versions.

Thanks for the reply. :-) Any way to switch regions via SSH?

I did not try it so far. Also, I can't remember wether the old firmware version with region support did support channels 12 and 13 if set to an EU country. But I remember that once an upgrade is made to this old firmware, the device does not accept a downgrade anymore. Maybe it is best to open a ticket and ask for support of this channels in EAP firmware if allowed in your country.

12&13 are not allowed for use in Canada/ America according to FCC rules. If you are in FCC country, do not attempt to use channel 12 and 13. If you are not in an FCC country, replace it with an EU version. I don't think SSH can switch regions with the new firmware.

The EU version is the same as the US version. See the latest firmware's name, it's EAPxxx(EU&US)_V2_170828 and it lacks channel 12/13 support as did previous EU versions. That's the point being discussed here.

I did't see any firmware for EAP110-Outdoor written as EAPxxx(EU&US)_V2_170828. I checked global site, USA/CA website, and also Germany site, all got something like EAP110-Outdoor(EU)_V1_161109 or EAP110-Outdoor(US)_V1_161109, where did you get this EAPxxx(EU&US)_V2_170828?

An EU version of EAP100-Outdoor V1.0 can certainly use channel 12.13.

German website for V2 models. Of course there already is a universal (EU&US) firmware dated 11-09-2017 for EAP110-Outdoor HW V1 available, it's this one (still in beta, but it will become the next official firmware version): http://static.tp-link.com/EAP110-Outdoor(UN)_V1_170911.zip

An EU version of EAP100-Outdoor V1.0 can certainly use channel 12.13.

Yes, you're right. Probably the newer devices have region info in the ART partition of the device (like the Pharos series has), then this would explain why Fun_E_mahn doesn't see channels 12 & 13 on his device even with EU firmware he claims to have.

But definitely the EAP110 EU version running the 09-11-2016 firmware version lacks channels 12 & 13, too - at least in the EAP controller, didn't check stand-alone mode:

Thanks for the inputs Gents!

To clarify; the APs were shipped with he US firmware, but when I attempted to flash the EU or UN firmware on them, I was unsuccessful with the message appearing:
"The version is the same as the running software".

Thanks R1D2 for the link to the new beta firmware, but, these are already running in Production and I'm hesitant to go with beta. I'll just wait until it's in final release and then give it a crack.

Question: Can different EAPs in 1 controller site run different versions of firmware? I'd like to flash only the 1 of 5 initially while having the rest remain in current state (of course, my intent is to eventually flash all 5 once 1 is tested and proven stable).

Cheers and thanks again! :-)

The beta fixes a bug, which causes the EAP to reboot if a voucher-based portal is used and Xiaomi or Galaxy phones try to connect. This bug is still present in older production firmware. The beta runs stable in a big installation with plenty of EAPs for two months now.

Question: Can different EAPs in 1 controller site run different versions of firmware?

Sure, no problem. Only if you update the EAP controller it could be necessary to upgrade the EAPs to a common firmware release, too - for example if new features are added to the EAP and controller, which you would like to use.

FYI: final release TL-EAP110-OUTDOORv1_1.1.0_[20170914-rel63009]_up_signed.bin just appeared yesterday on the download page of the TP-Link DE website.
