Weird problems with the ER6120

Hej,
I'm the admin for a small to medium sized company, and we're having weird problems with our TL-ER6120.
The ER6120 is connected to our internet gateway via 100MBit fiber and servers routing and dhcp purposes for our 40-50 users (about 100-130 clients, we have a very open BYOD policy).
Now, last monday users began to complain that their "internet was broken", but only via wi-fi. Our Access Points are basically just a bridge to the wired network, so all the wireless clients get their IPs from the ER6120, too.
So I first figured it was a problem with the APs or the controller. But everything was okay, and soon after that some wired clients also began to drop. The clients simply did not get their DHCP information from the router.
The web interface of the 6120 showed CPU load of 20-50%, nothing to worry about, I thought. Interestingly, all our equipment with static IPs still had connection. But their connection was all flaky, with packet drops and some crazy spikes in ping times.
I disabled the DHCP Server on the ER6120 and set up a dedicated DHCP Server on another computer. BOOM - problems gone. Ping times are almost back to normal (ranging from 2 to 12 ms to our provider gateway, still somewhat wobbly).
So - has anyone else encountered this problem? I was always under the impression that a powerful SMB router like the 6120 could handle some petty DHCP requests.

Not so familiar with SMB routers. Are there a lot of High-bandwidth-consumption applications on your clients PC ? Maybe the bandwidth is not enough for them.

DHCP server stops allocating new addresses
2013-03-21 06:10:42 - last edited 2021-08-21 06:14:17
Hi,
I am having the same problem here. Seems like the DHCP server suddenly stops running. A reboot, or disable/enable of the dhcp server from the web interface seems to reset things, but it's VERY annoying. We have a very small network here (~10 devices).
Hoping there's a firmware update to fix this. Any idea if there's a system log where some debug info can be found?
Firmware: 1.0.2 Build 20120719 Rel.42888
HW Version: 1
Brendon.
PS: IPv6 and the ability to enter your own DNS entries would also be great ;-)

I have a wifi extender on my network. Turning this OFF seems to resolve the issue.

Hi,
I am also having the same problem here. Clients get the impression that internet is down as the DHCP server suddenly stops running.
Is there any fix, workaround or hint how to prevent this?

DHCP server stops allocating new addresses
2014-01-14 21:46:13 - last edited 2021-08-21 06:14:17
I've run into this behavior as well with a TL-ER6120 v1.0 fw: 1.0.6 Build 20131129 Rel. 49461
Pretty simple network, DHCP pool of 100 (about 30 statics and 30-40 DHCP users) and a Netgear WNDR3700 in AP mode...
Upped the lease time to 2880 (48hrs) at the suggestion of a support rep but feel that's excessively long for a lease, but haven't seen the problem in about a week.
Anyone ever find the cause or a solution to this?
Thanks in advance.

The 1.02 Build firmware is pretty old, I'm running 1.0.6 Build 20131129 Rel.49461 and no longer have problems with DHCP.
I see there is a newer version (140113) but no details on what it fixes (or breaks!) yet...

DHCP problem just started out of the blue
2015-07-08 23:31:33 - last edited 2021-08-21 06:14:17
I've had my ER6020 for about a year and a half now and just started experiencing this problem this week out of the blue - I've made no recent changes to the configuration. A full power off/on does not resolve it
It is running the current firmware (I installed "1.1.0 Build 20150416 Rel.35252" in early May) so whatever the problem is it isn't fixed in this release.
I'll try the longer lease timeout and see if that helps in my situation.

Provide LAN and DHCP server settings?
How many L2/L3 switches are connected to the TL-ER6120?

Losing internet connection on most computers randomly
2017-04-07 01:40:06 - last edited 2021-08-21 06:14:17
I am having the exact same issue. Small business, 15 computers, and for some reason most of the computers will lose DHCP (yellow ! on network icon), but then after attempting to browse a few times it will come back. Also it seems some things are being blocked or slowed like teamviewer or mobile apps.
Region : US
ISP: Comcast
This happened on wired and wireless. For wireless we are using tp-link EAP 330
I choose to go all TP-Link when I redid the network a couple months ago.
Settings are all pretty much default. Nat mode, dhcp enabled, I tried reserving IPs but it still loses internet. WAN is dynamic IP
Attached is logs from 4/1 to 4/7 (today). I noticed some packets blocked, not sure why tho.
router-logs.txt
Please help
Thanks,
Todd
