EAP-110 Outdoor AP not retaining configuration on auto nightly reboot
EAP-110 Outdoor AP not retaining configuration on auto nightly reboot
We are currently using 7 EAP-115 and 1 EAP-110 outdoor APs in our apartment society gates for Wifi Access to MyGate Tablets. Recently we have observed a niggling problem with the EAP-110 outdoor unit that after reboot it does not ratain has its configuration and has to be manually adopted and WLAN group reconfigured. Here is the controller log:
(1) All our APs are configured to restart at 4:00 am in the morning everyday,
(2) The Outdoor AP (70-4F-57-74-40-B2) also follows this routine but when it restarts it does not come back to its configured state like other indoor APs (EAP-115s with macs ending with F2, F8, 4B octets in picture), despite controller being kept on. It just goes into Pending state with the correct IP and connectivity (layer 3 networking sems just fine because it is able to get on the network)..
(3) To bring out of its pending state, we have to
(a) manually adopt the AP
(b) assign it to the correct site and configure the WLAN Group on the AP again
(4) After this the problem goes away for a day or 2 or 3, till it reappears.
This has started happening after we switched from Auranet Controller to latest Omada Controller (now running 3.0.5) OR one of the Omada Controller software upgrades. It was defintely not observed for 6-8 months of operation with the Auranet Controller
Any pointers to debug further or resolve will be appreciated.

Hi,
What's the firmware/hardware version of EAP110-Outdoor? It seems that the EAP110-Outdoor will reset itself automatically. If you are using EAP110-Outdoor v1, please try to upgrade the beta firmware for the automatical resetting problem of EAP110-Outdoor.

Thanks Jonas.
The EAP 110 Outdoor AP hardware version is 1.0 (EU) and its using firmware 1.1.0 Build 20170914 Rel. 63009 which the Omada Controller reports as upto date.
Will the firmware version shared by you for manual upgrade work for this hardware version ?

Yes, it was made for EAP110-Outdoor. Please try to upgrade this beta firmware to check if it can solve your problem.

Upgraded successfully. The problem did not occur yesterday. Will keep the controller on for a week and observe. And after that shut it down and observe for another week. if no problem, than your solution resolves the issue (will report here).
Thanks for your support.

After upgrading the AP and observing for few days, the problem did not occur. Frequency of problem appearing seems to have decreased, But on the 3rd reboot or 4th day it agin resurfaced.
I reperformed the two steps of adopting and reconfiguration to get the AP back online. All this while the controller was on. I am shutting down the controler application and testing if the problem is due to controller - AP interaction at scheduled reboot.
Thanks and Regards

Just for the record: I had no more nightly reboots of EAP-110 Outdoor since update to the beta firmware, but a) when it sporadically rebooted before every 24 hours (unscheduled reboots were our problem!), it didn't lose adoption state and b) I'm still using controller v2.7.0.
If it might help you, I can configure a scheduled reboot to see wether it loses association to the controller, too.

Yes. you may try. I just know following diagnostic information from our setup:
1. The problem likely happens when PC controller is *left running [I do it because i want to monitor & manage something if required via Omada Cloud using phone/ipad]
2. The problem started occuring *only after we moved from Auranet to Omada Controller
3. The AP in questions runs fine all day, but after one *scheduled nightly reboot, it fails to come back online. It happens every N days (N = 3 atleast) but defintely not daily.
in our case we are doing nightly reboot to clear up any software issue and avoid maintaining the APs most of the time (which worked for almost a year).
The APs and controller are in same VLAN.

Works so far ... Two EAP110-Outdoor rebooted tonight (I observed the reboot) and both came back connected, no need to adopt them again. Will observe this next few days.
