I bought and installed the EAP 110, I'm 95% sure I got the cat6 plug in crimped correctly. Had to get a magnifying glass to make sure the wires were correct. Everything else looks correct, but when I click the adopt button no matter which password I put in, it says it is incorrect username/password. I reset the unit and tried again and same issue. NOW I am sure I am doing something wrong, no surprise. I just have no idea what it is that I am doing wrong. I can see the unit, with the correct mac address, it even shows up with my cell... still cannot connect to it. I did plug directly into my laptop, bypassing the router. I swear once I got my Xfinity pods the wifi range shrank, not grew... Hence the purchase of the EAP110.

 

So the obvious question, any idea what I am doing wrong, besides not having a pro do it. And did I buy the correct unit for what I am trying to do? I just wanted to plug it in and set a few things and have wifi in the backyard.

No idea what "can see the unit" exactly means, but to systematically track down connection problems perform the following steps:

 

  • Connect the EAP110-Outdoor directly to your laptop.
  • Reset the EAP110-Outdoor to factory settings. Press the RESET button for 5 to 7 seconds, it then should reboot with factory settings.
  • Set your laptop to a static IP from the 192.168.0.0 subnet, e.g. to 192.168.0.12 and apply it. No other settings are needed.
  • Ping 192.168.0.254. Got a response? If not, replace your patch cable and try again.
  • If ping works, you laptop "can see" the EAP. Start a browser and got to http://192.168.0.254/. Got a response? If not, turn off firewall or change the browser and try again.
  • Once the internal web UI works, you can either configure the EAP in stand-alone mode or use the EAP controller.

 

I prefer to set up single-EAP installations in stand-alone mode rather than setting up a controller for only one device, especially in a home network.

I returned the EAP110 because I was not able to get anything to work like you said, you're instructions were awesome, I however suck at this. I already had a static IP in TCP/IPv4 I did not check IPv6, I think my port forwarding app did that for me??? I could be wrong. But my static was 10.0.0.150, and I tried to ping the 192.168.0.254, did not get a response... Because of the odd static address??? Pinged with three different cables, one CAT5E and two different CAT6. I'm going to see if Xfinity will upgrade my modem and check my line (or at least check my line), then I'll start over since I have the CAT6 already ran out to where the AP was going to be mounted. Or I am going to purchase my own modem that is compatible with Xfinity, I've been told that could also get a better signal, but then I am not sure if my Xf pods will be compatible. This whole process of just getting a better signal to my cameras has been a trying experience. Anyway... again thank you for your reply and taking the time to try and help me.

You can't reach a device in the 192.168.0.0 network if your laptop's IP is in another subnet such as 10.0.0.0.
