@R1D2 not initially, but I had tried shutting down the windows VM that it was running on and restarting the Linux system.

I also tried the EAP discovery tool to change the controller IP on the AP's with no luck....

Probably worth pointing out I'm an amature with no sysadmin experience in a volunteer role lol

@Philllll, make sure to disable the Windows firewall and anti-virus software. Also check whether you can ping the EAP from the PC running the controller, this is essential. If it still doesn't work, the Linux setup of the controller maybe screwed up (check for the pre-requisites mentioned in the release notes of Omada controller).

If all this fails, too, consider use of an OC200, it's running a Linux controller out of the box and is much cheaper than wasting time fiddling with Windows oddities, which still apply if running Linux in a VM under Windows.

It doesn't look like I've been clear in my response. I have Linux running bare metal which has a windows VM running on it which hosts the Omada controller. It was done this way, because when the system was set up it seemed like TP-Link had dropped the Linux version. But since they have been releasing Linux versions with the windows versions lately we've decided to dump the windows VM. One question i had was that Debian seems to be running OpenJDK. Should this be ok? If not are there any good instructions I can follow for getting Debian working with Oracle Java?

@Philllll, see this post. That's the community version of Omada Controller 3.2.4.

Note that you have to install jsvc, mongodbcurl, net-tools and the Oracle JRE as pre-requisites. Unfortunately, the Debian jsvc package (but not the program itself!) has dependencies to OpenJDK last time I checked the package, so you might want to either compile jsvc from the source package directly or just copy the binary from the jsvc/apache-commons-daemon binary package to a safe location and remove the package with the dependency before installing Oracle JRE.
