Hello,

 

I recently installed a R600VPN at a small doctor's office that has about 10 end-point devices such as computers, printers, IP deskphones and etc.

However, it stops working almost every two weeks so I need to unplug the power cable and re-plug it to make it work again.

 

This is even 2nd device as they asked for a replacement.

 

The only thing I can think of is the error "Detected ping of death attack" in the log option.

 

Does anybody have an issue like me?

If the IP packet is more than 65535 bytes or less than 64bytes, router will think it's Ping of death attack. The size of the packet doesn't meet the network rule. Some devices may not understand the packet and may hangs. But now most of devices can defend this attack. Your router can defend this attack as well, but lost of packets may take up its CPU or memory. Cannot make sure that this attack make router hangs, but it's still a threat in your network. The router shows the log every 6 seconds. Maybe you can use wireshark to capture the packets and find which device sent this attack packet.

Can I just disable the feature that detects the ping of attack? even if I find something that incurs the error, what should I do with it? if it's a PC, do I need to replace it?

 

I was just wondering if there's an option the turn off the detection feature.

TL-R600VPN has the setting for ping of death. But it's checked by default and cannot be disable.

I unchecked the option but I still have the problem. I just unchecked the options that were initially checked as default. I will see what happens...

Yes......I started getting the Ping of Death on our 3 TL-R600 routers connecting 3 branch offices. The IPSEC between the routers kept disconnecting and reconnecting making access to server not work. I turned off Dead Peer Detection (DPD) in IPSEC Advanced settings. IPSEC tunnels staying up with no problems. Still getting Ping of Death, but I just ignore them, since they don't "appear " to be affecting performance and the router is "dropping" them.

I have disabled all the options that were checked as default in "Attack Defence" under "Firewall". I no longer see the attack message and its uptime is about 30days.

 

As for the IPsec VPN, I have never had that issue and that is a reason why I don't want to give up buying and selling(I'm a small re-seller) it's cheap and easy to manage ;)
