Model: TL-ER5120
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Just installed a second DSL line on my ER5120 and I get DNS not found issues with my network, both wired and wireless. Windows troubleshooting sometimes correct the issue, other times doesn't with DNS timeout message. I changed the DNS in each pc to Google and OpenDNS but for doesn't help, some pcs work ok other continue to timeout after random times.

Many times even windows toubleshoot can't help, the network icon shows full internet access but dns is down.

The first connection is static and the new one is dynamic. The DNJS servers are diferent for each connection.

Is there something I can do to fix this issue?

@NikosK

You can use Windows CMD to ping your DNS server. Like ping 8.8.8.8. If it shows timeout as well, then your network should has problem.

About your ISP, did he provide any DNS server? You can try to use that server and try to ping it as well.

@Andone

When everything works ok the ping is low, when I have the issue the ping is the same but the nslookup doesn't work at all, saying host unreachable, as if something forces an other dns server for the packets. The same happens with the google dns server.

I m thinking that mayby one of ther WAN connections doesn't work properly or if the router forces the dns of the first connection to the second one.

@NikosK

If you are convenient, you can disconnect WAN1 temporarily. Then check if the DNS will fail all the time after disconnect WAN1. If yes, we can confirm WAN2 link has problem. Then check the settings for WAN2 or ask for your ISP.

@Andone

It was a Wan2 issue. for some reason it used the DNS of the other ISP and as a result it was blocked. I reconfigured the connection and for now the DNS issue stopped. If it happens again I will reset the rutter and start from scratch.

Thanks for your time.
