We have 2 EAP245s in our wifi network and use Omada for configuration.  We have a machine with a LAN port (no wifi capability).  Can I use another EAP245 as a wireless bridge?  This EAP245 would not be connected to the network via cable, only WiFi.  Could a mesh network work for this?  I'm not very familiar with mesh networking.

 

If this will not work, how would you do this?

@DeadCenter, yes, you could use a mesh network. Just link EAP #3 with either EAP #1 or EAP #2 (or use automatic fail-over to use EAP #2 if the link to #1 fails).

 

Wired mesh EAPs are root nodes, meaning you can link other mesh nodes to them. Note that you need Omada controller to configure a mesh network and to use automatic fail-over. AFAIK, meshing for EAP245 still needs a beta firmware, if you want to try it, contact TP-Link support.

@R1D2 Unfortunately, I've just learned that the EAP245 firmware does not support mesh at this time.

@DeadCenter , see this post (#33). There is a beta software which supports mesh on EAP245. You need to ask TP-Link for this beta software to test it.

Hello @DeadCenter,

 

Or buy an EAP225V3 from Amazon for $58.  But the Beta software is free.

 

In my home home, I use MOCA over coax for one of my EAP's (225V3) which when connected with a small ethernet switch also services my AV equipment in that room.  Now with MESH support, if my MOCA flakes out (a couple times per year usually when my FIOS router restarted), it fails over to MESH which is really nice.
