Dear All,

I've managed to set up the first EAP 225 AP , and it works really well. The only concern is there is are two hidden SSIDs,  currently on channel 48 & 36 (both 5GHZ).

 

Should these be here i.e are required for a mesh or config ? Can they be disabled ?

yes, a mesh network uses a hidden SSID. But I see only one per device and if you have a second EAP225 it uses the same channel. Are you sure that the second record of a hidden SSID is not a stale one?

 

If you turn off mesh in Omada controller, the hidden SSID disappears (after a timeout depending on the WiFi analyzer you use).

Many, thanks, I confirmed that turning them off they disappeared, but this may have been a fluke chance (May try again) . A third one appeared , this time with a MAC which cold be looked up, the 3rd was a Roku. I'll keep an eye on it

Omada Controller will assign the hidden ESSID a private BSSID (MAC address). This is done by setting the second least significant bit of the first octet to »1«. Private MAC addresses are similar to private (RFC1918) IP addresses: they are not assigned to a vendor.

Hi @AndrewW-link,

 

I was just going to add, I have several Roku's (one per TV), and these make all sorts of hidden Wifi networks -- even when Ethernet connected.  I think these are for the Remotes so that line of site is not needed.

 

While annoying, they don't seem to cause any trouble.
