Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: V1_1.7.0 Build 20200113

Hi, I placed an eap225-outdoor on the window sill of an apartment on the third floor of a building to bring the wi-fi signal to a place in the garden 60 meters away. I connected eap225 to a 600 Mbps powerline. In the garden area I have a bad wifi signal, how can I improve the radio signal?
I want to eliminate the powerline, you could connect an M4 deco system with the eap225-outdoor as a wifi signal repeater. Thanks in advance.

Hi @adrynapoletano,

There are a couple of potentilal issues.  The radiation pattern of the EAP225-Outdoor antenna may be too flat (think of compressed Toroid/donut).  I haven't seen a diagram of the radiation pattern for this unit, but it could be that most of the signal is above you.

Are you saying the signal is low, speed are slow, or both?

If your AP is 15meters up, and the garden is 60meters away, then the Hypotenuse is ~61.84m or roughly 202.9 feet.  That's pretty far for an omnidirectional antenna.

Thank you for your answer. How can I solve the problem to improve the radio signal? Yes, I also have a low connection speed, measured with speedmeter, it is 9Mpbs both in download and in upload.

Hi @adrynapoletano,

A couple things to try.

1) Try to lower the AP (closer to the ground if possible) and/or tilt it such that the line of site of the antennas point directly at the garden.  That is to say, you want to tilt the AP so that a right angle coming from the Antenna points towards the garden.

2) You may need to replace the omni directional antennas with directional antennas.  I've also seen some folks use the CPE model in lieu of the Outdoor for longer distance, directional use.3) Some other configuration tips:

Some config tips:

a) Disable Airtime fairness, Disable Band Steering

b) Use separate SSID's for 2.4 & 5.8

c) Turn up transmit power to High

d) Manually select an unused channel for the 2.4 and 5.8GHz radios

e) Set the 2.4GHz BW to 20MHz, Set the 5.8GHz BW to 20MHz (20MHz carries further and there are more channels to choose from)

f) Set the 5.8GHz radio for 802.11n & ac only

g) Make sure your firmwares are up to day (EAP225, 245, OC200)

3) Compare the performance between the 2.4 & 5.8 Ghz bands

I have seen some videos on YouTube for folks reviewing the 225-Outdoor.  It seems like up to 100m should be possible.  BUT, not only does the EAP have to transmit to you, but your handset needs to transmit back that same distance.  Your handset may work better on one band versus the other.
