Model: TL-R470T+
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version: 6.0.2 Build 20180211 Rel.60963

Recently I purchased this router as I am having 2 ISP's. Here is my setup (Default configuration in router - no changes done).

WAN 1 (ppoe): Fiber cable directly from brodband provider - 40mbps

WAN 2 (dynamic ip): Coming from ADSL router - Broadband through telephone landline - 10mbps

I see too much fluctations in internet speed after installing this load balancer. Particulary the upload speed has dractically decreased. Attachment in google/yahoo is too slow (takes about 10min to upload 10mb file). Ocasionally, the browsing speed also suddenly decreases. Earlier (without load balancer) I was using only one connection (Fiber) and everything was fine.

The reason I took this router is to balance the load of both the ISP's. However, seeing some speed issues.

Please help me in resolving this issue at the earliest.

Thank you!

@prax

When you upload or access the internet, the traffic may go through WAN2, so get a slow speed.

Please note, for the multi-point transmission, like P2P download, you may get a speed for WAN1 and WAN2 together. For single point transmission, the traffic will go through one WAN. When it go to WAN2, you will get a slow speed.

You can try to set up policy routing to make the specific traffic go to WAN1.

Thank you for your reply. Can you please throw some light on policy based routing. Any video's reference manuals etc. I have a fair understanding of PBR but not confident to make changes in router. Any references will help.

@Andone I have the following devices on my network and trying to achieve best optimization as per the priority using the load balancer.

Thank you very much!

@prax

About how to set up policy routing.

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2134/

You can make your important devices use the the WAN1. In policy routing, set important devices IP address as source, choose any_IP as destination, choose all as service, choose WAN1 as interface.

@Andone Thank you for your quick reply.

Request you to please confirm whether my below understanding is right.

1) I need to reserve priority IP's (DHCP) then enable policy routing.
2) IP group should be created for policy routing.
3) Service type can be selected as "HTTP".
4) I need to configure 2nd rule also.
5) What about TCP?

@Andone One quick question:

If I want to create separate policy routing only for smart devices (Eg: Alexa/echo show, Andriod TV box, google home etc), what is the "service type" that I need to select?

OR Which is the best custom service type that I can create for these devices?

Thank you!

@prax

You can choose 'ALL' services in policy routing settings.

The service type is based on TCP/UDP port. I don't know what TCP/UDP port your smart devices used. So if you want to make sure those devices use the WAN1 that has higher bandwidth, you can choose 'ALL' services to make all traffic go to WAN1.

I have 2 ISP's and routed all Http traffic to WAN 1 (Primary fast speed). What happens if I select both "WAN1" and "WAN2" in policy routing for all other traffic. Is it the best approach for setup?
