Hi,

I'm using the Omada SDN Software Controller and all EAPs are centrally managed, i.e. I don't need the webfrontend on the EAPs.

Yet if I login on the EAPs I see

PID  PPID USER     STAT   VSZ %VSZ %CPU COMMAND

  839     1 0        S     9640   8%   0% /usr/bin/httpd
  838     1 0        S     9616   8%   0% /usr/bin/httpd -p

So those two processes take up 16% of the available memory.

Would it be possible to completely deactivate the httpd processes once an EAP has been adopted?

The less useless processes running on the EAP the better.

@ASCII, it's virtual size (VSZ) allocated to httpd in case it would be used when someone accesses the server.

The program is not using this amount of physical memory, only a tiny fraction of it (few 4K pages if at all).

@R1D2 sure, I'm aware that those numbers do not actually mean the real memory usage (with shared libaries, unused memory etc). But that's beside the point. I don't really care if it's 4% or 8%.

It just seems wasteful having processes running which basically do nothing and only increase the potential attack surface of the device.

ASCII, agreed. A potential attack surface is a valid reason to disable unused services.

Maybe Fae can add this to the list of feature requests? Thanks!
