Hi all,

looking for advice on how to extend the wifi range on our local fishing wharf.

Currently we have wifi enabled on the service providers modem/router only. This gives spotty coverage on the wharf but we are looking to improve this so that the guys can start filling their required quotas online whilst coming into the harbour.

Improved cover for the wharf is the minimum requirement but ideally directional coverage for 1km  and  360 cover for the wharf would be the best solution.

We can mount the device on a new pole or use a nearby street light pole just behind the coms shed (on the left in the photo)

Any suggestions welcome and thanks,

For the wharf I would recommend EAP225-Outdoor which has a 360º coverage of a ~100m to 200m area. You need to lay an outdoor cable from your router to the EAP.

As for a directional link over 1km distance: this is possible if the remote is a stationary device which has directional antennas , too.

It is not possible to wirelessly link standard consumer devices such as laptops, smartphones, tablets over such a distance, because they have much weaker antennas which are not suitable to send data back to an AP over a distance of 1km.
